Hey my lovelies! Thank you for joining me for another #NeedleWorkMonday venture! Today I will show you how to make tulle pom poms. I made this Winter hat for my one year old and wanted to play around with textures. My #NeedleWorkMonday folks know how I love different textures.

I’ve only worked with tulle once before when I made my eldest daughter a tutu six years ago so I decided to experiment with it again. I love the soft look that it gives and how light and airy it is. I thought it’d be cute to decorate the hat with it and I am happy with the results. I just hope my toddler doesn’t pull them off the hat. The first pom pom I made was too big and I didn’t feel like cutting it down so I gave it to her. She loved the texture of it and hugged it all night and rubbed it across her face. So hopefully she’ll be gentle with the ones on her hat too. 🤞🏽

Making tulle pom poms is literally the same process as making the yarn ones.

Supplies:

• Tulle
• A piece of cardboard
• Scissors

The size of the cardboard you use is a preference and will determine how big your pom pom turns out.

You’ll need to cut off an additional piece of tulle to tie around your gathered bundle.

1) First, place your tulle around the cardboard and begin wrapping it around. I wrapped mine around ten times to get a nice thickness to it.

2) Next, carefully grab a hold of the tulle and slide it off the cardboard. While securely holding the bundle wrap the additional piece of tulle around and tie it tightly. I always wrap it twice for extra security.

3) Then, use your scissors to cut the folded ends on each side. You’ll end up with a fuzzy uneven pom pom at first.

4) Finally, fluff the pom pom by fanning out and separating the pieces and cutting around it to make even ends.

For the smaller pom poms I just wrapped the tulle around three of my fingers.

That’s all folks! Pretty simple huh? I used a matching thread to sew the pom poms onto the hat :)

I really like the look of the different textures; the heavier textured yarn with the soft tulle. It made the hat extra girly and my daughter looks like a snow princes when wearing it :D

I always add ear flaps to my toddler hats because hats tend to slide up and ears get cold. With these flaps my kid’s ears always stay covered and warm and I don’t have to keep pulling their hats down to accomplish that.

I hope you enjoyed the tutorial today! Please tell me what you think of the hat. I plan to make more like these and possibly sell them. I still plan on opening a shop with @homesteaderscoop, we’ve just had some major setbacks that has caused the process to be a lot slower than anticipated. Have you checked out the website lately? They have some new products in. Homesteaderscoop for Sustainable Living.

See Ya Next Time!

The hat!!!!! You want an opinion? It is amazing. I in general love the star stitch but it is even more beautiful in the combination you designed (with the single crochet inserted, so clever) Perhaps not surprising for you: the colors are wonderful. I so would buy this hat (although I am bit older than your daughter 😂😂) I love the high contrast of the colors which is softened by the pink. I can see someone running through the snow or wearing it with black designer clothes.
You notice I reallllllyy love it.
So much I almost forgot the Pom Pom :-D Which is a clever idea too. But the hat 💕😍💕😍💕

PS: I looked at the shops site and it looks very professional. I would love if you will write about experiences someday. How it works, if you could sell things etc. (Background Silvia and I wanted to sell some of the smaller paintings or sweaters we made online, but its super complicated tax wise and to get customers in generell. The market here is full with everything, sadly mostly super cheap and I guess not really handmade.)

Strange... I wanted to edit my answer and to write something more, but it does not show... so here is my addendum:

I agree that the site is very professional. I really wanted to be up and running by now so that I could write about my experiences . I do plan to for sure ;)

Maybe you and Sylvia should look more into selling on that market especially because there is no charge to sell your handmade goods and you can choose to receive Steem or use PayPal in exchange. I believe they have added other methods of payment now too.

Haha that is great to know you would buy such a hat! 😄 Thank you so much for the feedback! Those were the colors I pulled from my scrap yarn stash, I wanted to start putting them to good use. I really love the star stitch too! 😘❤️
