So much for the NewSteem?

The #NewSteem looks like a failure in the long term. Or at least for me as a blogger. At first I received more upvotes, and the post payouts were increased, but later both of these decreased. Nowadays sometimes I still struggling to reach the payout threshold, which is $0.02. The real, human interaction is still rare. At least under the blog posts I post with Busy, eSteem. Nowadays I don't even use Steemit for blogging, because these dApps are much better.

My average post payouts has been halved since the #NewSteem. Just like my upvote value in general.

Only eSteem, Busy and SteemPeak motivates me to write blog posts, and dPoll to create and answer polls Especially eSteem with the post boosting with eSteem Points (ESTM) feature. By the way, eSteem Points (ESTM) really motivates me (and many other people) to write comments from eSteem, because I/we earn eSteem Points (ESTM) with every comment I/we wrote.

I write this blog post from Busy, because nowadays I wrote most of my blog post from eSteem.
I have not posted anything with Busy for some time. I have set the reward method to "100% Steem Power", and I keep the tick at the "Share 10% of this post rewards with Busy" checkbox. Let's see whether I will get an upvote from them or not. And if yes, then what will be the value. Probably around $0.07, but that is still more than nothing. But that will not motivate me to put a lot of efforts and hours of work into my posts, because I am not going to do that just for a few cents.

Probably no one (or only 1 or 2 persons) will really read this blog post, but if anyone read this, then I would like to ask a few questions. What is your experience with #NewSteem? Is it really new (and better) for you? If yes, then how and how much? Is it really good in the long term, or it had only a short effect, like in my case?

Hey there. Overall for the authors it can feel like it’s a failure as the rewards split is changed to 50/50. But you should also feel that the curation rewards improved.

I see a drop in my author rewards too, because of the new split. But I see a clear improvement on my curation rewards.

On the long term I expect more accounts to become active because curation is more attractive now with #newsteem. Which would mean more potential voters for your content as author.

Maybe more voters, but less rewards for me as an author.
Curation may looks more attractive, but it is actually less effective (at least for small Steem accounts like mine), because the upvote values are halved, and the rewards split is also changed to 50/50.
Many people are mainly upvoting the popular authors/posts. Posts that tend to generate a lot of rewards. Unfortunately my posts are not in this category. I understand them at some level. They are trying to maximize their curation rewards.

I understand your point from the authors point of view.
On the other hand, with curation more encouraged, more people will look for “valuable” posts. Which means more voters for you as an author, which you would not get before.
Also the 50/50 is in favor of curators, so you should get more profit from your curation efforts. I don’t get the “upvote values are halved” remark. Did I miss something? :)

It is true that the curation rewards dont count much for smaller accounts as they dont hold a lot of SP.

That’s why I’m trying to grow my account in SP and VP to gain more from curation rewards too. Investing all I get from Steem back to Steem :))

Yes, more voters, but still the same or even less rewards. Nowadays many people (including even me) are upvoting posts with less than 100%. Mainly because of the new reward curve. Sometimes (when the upvoting efficiency is low) I earn the same amount of curation rewards with a 100% upvote and with a 50% upvote. But sometimes the efficiency is more than 100%, and I earn much more with a 100% upvote than with a 50% upvote. Unfortunately I don't know what (or which) makes an upvote efficient.

I don't know by which HardFork (21 or 22), but my upvote value was dropped from $0.008 to $0.004 for some time. Maybe it was a bug. I checked my latest upvotes on SteemWorld now, and nowadays it is dynamic. According to SteemWorld, my 100% upvote (on 100% voting power) is currently worth $0.006, But I checked my latest upvotes, and my 100% upvote varies from $0.004 to $0.01, so my upvote sometimes worth even more than the displayed amount.

I think people try to spread out the rewarding possibilities, meaning people use their VP more consciously than before because the right upvote with good percentage can earn good curation rewards.

Unfortunately I don't know what (or which) makes an upvote efficient.

I think timing is an important factor. Before the most recent HF, the right time was around 15 mins. after the creation of the post. Now the most effective is around 4-5 mins I guess.
But also the post itself is important. If you upvote a good quality post before it is "found" by curation groups or more/bigger accounts, the chances of receiving a nice reward increases a lot.

But I checked my latest upvotes, and my 100% upvote varies from $0.004 to $0.01, so my upvote sometimes worth even more than the displayed amount.

SteemWorld sometimes reflects a wrong value as vote power indeed. I also had that a couple of times.
I would focus on the Steem rewards instead of USD value of it, as also the USD value of Steem is not stable.

I see that some of my later upvotes are sometimes more effective than the earlier ones and vice-versa.
For example I have a 100% upvote with $0.008 upvote value after 6 minutes, the efficiency is 100.61%, and the coming curation reward is 0.039 Steem Power.
I have a 100% upvote with $0.008 upvote value after 8 minutes, 51 second, the efficiency is 109.18%, and the coming curation reward is 0.042 Steem Power. This is currently my most effective upvote.
I have a 100% upvote with $0.007 upvote value after 6 hours, 42 minutes, 42 seconds, the efficiency is 83.82%, and the coming curation reward is 0.030 Steem Power.
These are three relatively efficient upvotes. The first is an early upvote, the second is a later upvote, and the third is an even more later upvote.
I also have less effective upvotes both for early and later upvotes. For example I have a 100% upvote with $0.008 upvote value after 6 minutes, 6 seconds, the efficiency is 33.83%, and the coming curation reward is 0.013 Steem Power. I have a 100% upvote with $0.009 upvote value after 10 minutes, 24 seconds, the efficiency is 35.80%, and the coming curation reward is 0.016 Steem Power.
Ironically I currently have my best 100% upvote in terms of upvote value ($0.01), but the worst upvote in terms of efficiency (18.93 %). The coming curation reward is only 0.009 Steem Power. This is somewhat understandable, because I voted after 1 day, 16 hours, 10 minutes, 12 second, so this is a very late upvote.

I do not really see what is new, the real thing is that steemit is declining, because his confidence is being lost, and all good accounts gave Power down, and they are leaving, it is simple with that change he wants to restrict the leakage of the value of the steemt, because of the bad handling of the platform, more restrictions, less freedoms, is the one of failure ... and steemit does not escape that.

A question other than the topic, what do you do with eSteem Points (ESTM)?

Nowadays I mostly boost blog posts with eSteem Points (ESTM), which means that I receive an upvote with a given value in exchange for a given amount of eSteem Points (ESTM). The more eSteem Points (ESTM) I use to boost a blog post, the bigger upvote I receive. The minimum amount you need to use is 150 eSteem Points (ESTM), which nowadays gives approximately a $0.314 upvote. The maximum you can use ito boost a blog post is 2500 eSteem Points (ESTM), which nowadays gives approximately a $5.23 upvote. Nowadays I don't do serious boosts. I usually boost my blog posts with less than $1. The important thing about this is that you can use eSteem Points (ESTM) to boost only blog posts posted with eSteem. You can also use eSteem Points (ESTM) to promote blog posts. The developers of eSteem are developing more use cases for the eSteem Points (ESTM). For example later we will be able to exchange eSteem Points (ESTM) to Steem Power delegation, and also to trade (buy and sell) for Steem on the Steem Engine.
