Notes on contemporary art

I continue with some publications related to contemporary art, in this publication we will analyze some of the most representative works of the museum of contemporary art in Caracas.

Antoni Tápies will be the first painter that we will analyze, the first impression based on the handling of space, line, color and proportion, Tápies is within the avant-garde movement and promoted his own style that he called materic informalism. First we will make a brief analysis of art through curatorial techniques.

Space:

the work we see in question does not handle any spatial technique, neither in the two nor in the three dimensions.

Line:

we can appreciate that the artist does not detail or suggest a form in concrete or abstract or in the best case of the abstract expressionism.

Color:

this artist uses pure color, there are no shades, nor defined forms, he tends to make splashes of paint in his works without any apparent reason.

Proportion:

there is no spatial handling of forms, devoid of perspective.

Argument and theoretical bases:

According to Antoni Tápies himself, he has carried out philosophical and psychological studies and research on human beings, tending to be related to the existentialist current. According to his own criticism, he tries to express natural elements of life, death and sexuality through icons and by his way of working directly on the work.

A basic element in contemporary art is the use of philosophical, psychological resources to explain different works, there is no message in the painting, it is the artist who distinguishes with his discourse and defense the meaning of the work.

Conclusion

If we review the artist's work we will find repetitive elements throughout his production, I honestly don't think he has contributed anything with such works, at least the painting I have presented does not express anything unless the curator or gallery owners have a great deal of detail which is what the artist wanted to convey with the painting.

Joan Miró

The next work is by Joan Miró who is in the museum of contemporary art in Caracas - Venezuela, I will do the same treatment and then we will compare what is the result of this experiment.

Space:

in this work of Joan Miró we can appreciate the rational use of space, in search of new proposals, almost everything is based at least on painting in two-dimensional techniques.

Line:

we appreciate the use of thick lines that border on pure colours, unlike Tápies. This artist does use at least paint and geometric elements within his work, the only problem is that they lead us to see icons that are difficult to understand.

Color:

predominant use of blue, red and yellow, black, almost all the works of Joan Miró have this combination, solid colors with some exceptions of creating certain atmospheres like nebulous style, gives sensation of spatiality.

Proportion:

in most of Miró's works you can't appreciate the use of proportion because they are not objects or bodies or anything like that, the forms are like I mentioned, icons that the same artist designed and that are repeated in most of his works.

Arguments:

Miró argued his work based on child psychology or said by himself, refusing to use the classic and conventional elements of universal painting to kill, murder or rape them.

If I refer to historical facts, it is probable that Miró maintained this position not because he was away from the surrealist groups of the time, but rather he excluded himself from the groups because he was not well received and his painting did not attract much attention, so he took advantage of political and social influences to invent a style more towards the abstract and generating different postulates and arguments that gave him notoriety.

Comparison:

Both artists managed to enter the art world thanks to the ingenuity and influences in different art circles that managed to accept them, after being presented in different museums and galleries these types of works began to look normal, with time they have come to be considered art geniuses.

Can we really consider these characters with their works as art geniuses?

If all art has a reason to express through something logical an idea, it is necessary that art becomes something that nobody understands?

Are we facing a harmful stage for art?
