#needleworkmonday | Single Crochet Buff and 5 SPI Giveaway

(Edited)

I was inspired by @kaerpediem's post about how to make a simple fabric buff - such a great idea for bad hair days or when you just want your hair out of the way. I really liked @jurich60's post about a crocheted Rasta buff but I struggled with the pattern - I'll have to wait for the tutorial :)

The yarn shop near me that is closing has offered further discounts. I'd seen these two balls of cotton stockinette tape yarn before, but I hadn't had any idea what I could make with them. I thought there might be just enough for a buff, so I added them to my basket of goodies.

I only learned to crochet last year and I struggled with some aspects of it. I made several small projects, but I hadn't done anything since Christmas. I though the buff might be a good idea to practice several stitches, but after trying a few I decided it looked best in simple single crochet.

I started with a row of foundation single crochet to give a stretchy edge. It took a while to get the right number of foundation chains for the fit I wanted. I tested it by doing several rows of single crochet and then trying the band on. Seventy foundation chains seemed to be about right.

I'm crocheting in the round and one thing I'm really pleased with is the starting chain and slip stitch at the beginning of each new round. One of the problems I had previously was growing extra stitches with each round!

5 SPI Giveaway

I've been very fortunate over the past few weeks and won lots of prizes in contests. In #needleworkmonday, I won the second anniversary prize a week or two ago. Last week, I tried to share that out by dropping shares in the 40 SPI raffle for people who posted in #needleworkmonday ... which I won, so that idea didn't work out as I planned!

This week, I'm doing a straightforward giveaway of 5 SPI tokens.
If you would like to be included in the giveaway, these are the rules:

The draw will take place after this post pays out and notified in my post next Monday 19 August 2019.

A bit more information about SPI

I've written about Steem Power Investments in this post - it's a great way to invest and save regularly.

The idea behind SPInvest is that all Steem investments by investors are powered up and leased for at least 20% APR; the income derived from leasing Steem Power is reinvested in more leases or in off-chain investments, for example, other crypto-currencies like Bitcoin and precious metals. At regular intervals, the total holdings are re-evaluated and the token - SPI - is re-valued. Investors can either sell back their tokens to SPInvest or trade them through Steem-Engine.

If you decide to buy some SPI tokens yourself, please make sure that you take heed of the risks:

  • there is no formal governance or agreement in place yet, although @spinvest has published a draft agreement.
  • "not your keys, not your coins".

And as @neoxian puts it so sweetly in a big fat disclaimer:

My ... tokens are just digital pieces of fluff, and may never be worth anything. Be very cautious in purchasing any tokens, including mine ... don't invest more than you can afford to lose.

Shameless Promotion

I'm running a 1000 JAHM Film Review Giveaway over on ReggaeSteem, if you would like to join in :)

Love love love the colours @shanibeer! I have not seen a cotton stockinette tape yarn before and I like how soft it looks. I have also been wanting to try foundation single crochet but haven't. You give me a good reason to :) And your joins are really nice and neat! I always, always have extra stitches when crocheting in a round which is so frustrating. Did you join both the yarns to create the smooth colour palette? I really like the colours!

The colours are lovely, aren't they? And the yarn is very very soft :) I haven't mixed the colours, I'm using one ball and then the other. Good luck with your crocheting, it takes a while to learn all the techniques!

Interesting project and lovely colours! I love the "Sol" yarn by Lang, it's so soft and easy to work with. But it should be washed cold because otherwise it shrinks.

Yes, I noticed the low temperature wash on the label!
Lovely to see you 😍

I'm really intrigued by that yarn, it looks like it will be so soft and comfortable to wear. I liked @kaerpediem's buff as well, it's cool to see you run with it and make your own version!

Lol that’s so funny how you were trying to give some away and end up winning the contest! 😅

I love those colors too! I start a lot of my Fall hats off with a foundation hdc or dc. I really love using the foundation stitches for the extra pull they give and elastic feel. Your rounds and joins look really good!

I know! I was thinking, I can't give it away! well, let's hope I can this week :) It's a funny story, anyway he he.

Yes, it's a good stitch, sometimes single crochet can lack flex. I love your slipper(s), by the way, they look really cosy :)

Lol!!

Yes it does lack the flex. Thanks so much! Let’s just hope I get more yarn before I’m out of the mood to make the second one! 😄😅

The two balls of cotton stockinette tape form such a interesting colour together.
