Needlework Monday: Nuada and the Golden Hat

(Edited)

Greetings, needleworkers! This week I actually have two projects done, hooray! This past weekend I spent two full waking days on the first project, Nuada! :)

I had a feeling to make my Gods as dolls, and the first one I needed to do was Nuada. Nuada of the Silver Arm is one of the Tuatha De Dannan, aka the faeries.

I had some pre-made doll forms, so step one was embroidering his face. I picture Nuada as having vitiligo, ergo the different colored eyes and eyebrows and hair. Step two was cutting, threading, sewing, and knotting each individual strand of hair. I feel like I should count how many hairs he has, lol.

Then I knit him a sweater on my mini loom knitters that are about as old as I am, made him some pants with the same jeans that I used to make Yuan's vest, made him some shoes with leather scraps stitched together with embroidery floss (which I am about to add another piece to the shorter one because it's too short and falls off, I have now realized), and made him a torc with seven colors of wire and some beads and moon charms.

He makes me really happy. I love how he turned out. :D

Second project: earlier in the week, I finally finished my golden hat!

I hung it up to dry after washing by pinning it on my indoor clothesline with clothespins, and they left an indent on the hat! Argh. LOL. I might need to rewash and just stretch it out on the drying rack instead...

The yarn feels much softer after washing, so that was a nice surprise. It's a bit loose with my hair just down as it is in the photo, but I almost never wear my hair loose. When I tried it on before, I had a ponytail in and with my hair up it provides nice slouchy hat cover, which is probably how it's going to be worn most of the time - over a blob of hair at the back of my head in some fashion - so it works. :)

So I was actually productive on the crafting front this week, yay!

I look forward to seeing all of your projects! :D

I can imagine the hat being very convenient for your long hair, when its colder outside I also like to wear hats with my hair inside, but find them often to narrow to be comfortable. The dents are annoying but I think will stretch out very fast. As I never use clothespins I have always one big fold on my shirts and sweaters from them hanging on clothesline (and every time I am too lazy to iron it out :-DDD)
And I love that your craft /art projects often have references to myths and especially the Celtic myth. I just yesterday recommended the iron Druid (i know its easy reading pop culture, but I nevertheless love it) to a friend.
I especially like the mini torque you created and that you added individuality by using different colours for the eyes.

Thank you! :) Yeah a lot of my art and craft projects are spirituality related to my Paganism. Celtic myths are a big part of me. :)
