SnapPap

@akipponn hat vor ein paar Monaten darüber geschrieben und ich war sofort daran interessiert: Etwas, das aussah wie Papier, aber viel haltbarer war und genäht werden konnte..... Ich suchte nach weiteren Informationen und erfuhr, dass es lederähnlich aussehen soll, wenn man es zuerst knittert und danach wäscht. Die Webseite dazu zeigt viele Beispiele, es gibt das Material auch "vorgeknittert" zu kaufen und in Metallic-Optik, aber ich fand das "Papierbraun" eigentlich sehr schön.

@akipponn wrote about it a few months ago and I was interested at once: Something that looked like paper, but was much more durable and could be sewn... I looked for more information and learned that it could look leather-like if you first crumple it and wash it afterwards. Unfortunately the homepage is German only, but you can probably find information about it and buy it elsewhere in the world. Or probably there is something similar from a different brand - "vegan leather" is a good slogan ;)

Letzte Woche bin ich endlich dazu gekommen mir etwas davon zu kaufen. Es ist wirklich wie Papier, etwas dicker als Tonpapier und auch festter. Ich beschloss, eine einfache Projekttasche zu machen. Also wurde ein Stück abgeschnitten und zerknittert - was einfacher klingt als es war, da hatte ich wirklich alle Hände voll zu tun ;) Danach kam das Stück Snappap mit Jeans und T-Shirts in die Waschmaschine.

Last week I bought some and it really is like paper, only thicker and more dense. I decided to make a simple project bag. So, a piece was cut off and crumpled - which sounds easier than it was, my hands really got a work out. Afterwards it accompanied some jeans and t-shirts in their washing cycle.

Es kam glatter wieder heraus, aber mit den Spuren vom Zerknüllen, der dem Ganzen wirklich einen lederartigen Look verlieh. Leider ist es schwierig zu fotografieren, zumindest mit meinem Handy, es bleibt ziemlich verschwommen. Auf Anraten mehrerer Nähblogs beschloss ich, es zu nähen, während es noch etwas feucht war - sozusagen "bügelfeucht". Trocken kann man sicherlich einfache Nähte machen, aber in Form bringen klappt da nicht.

It came out more smooth, but with the traces of the crumpling which truly gave it a leather-like look. Unfortunately it's difficult to photograph, at least with my mobile phone, it always comes out a bit blurred. Following advice from several sewing blogs, I decided to sew it while it was still a bit damp - what I'd call "iron dry".

Das Nähen dieses Materials ist wie bei anderen dichten Stoffen - aber man muss wirlich aufpassen vorm Nähen. Wenn die Löcher von den Stichen einmal drin sind, dann bleiben sie ;) Ich habe meine übliche Projekttasche gemacht mit einem Zierstich-Saum an der Oberkante. Man braucht es nicht zu säumen weil es ja nicht ausfransen kann, aber ich mit der festeren Kante, die das doppelte Material ergibt, bin ich auf der sicheren Seite.

Sewing this material is like other dense fabrics - but you have to take care that you make the right stitches and seams. Once sewn, the holes in the fabric will stay there ;) I made my simple project bag and an hemline at the top with an ornamental stitch. You don't need to hem it but I prefer the firmer edge the doubled material provides.

Nachdem der Beutel trocken war, habe ich ihn gleich benutzt. Er ist wirklich solide und steht aufrecht, auch wenn er leer ist. Ich bin wirklich sehr zufrieden mit Material und Handhabung. Ich habe noch die gleiche Menge SnapPap übrig und denke darüber nach, was ich damit machen werde..... Und es gibt das Zeug ja in verschiedenen Farben... Schau'n mer mal ;)

After the bag was dry, I put it to use. It's solid and stands even when it's empty and I love it. I still have the same amount of SnapPap left and I'm thinking about what I'll do with it... And they have it in different colors: white and black and grey...

What's on my needles

The Aldi-socks - I did the leg of one sock but had to wait for my sister to try it on to decide on the length of the cuff.	Die Aldi-Socken - viel weiter bin ich noch nicht. Ich habe einen Schaft fast fertig und meine Schwester muss heute anprobieren um die Länge des Bündchens zu bestimmen.
Since I couldn't knit on said socks during the weekend I "had" to start a new project ;) And its colors match my fall decoration, too! Anyway, I started to crochet a Duinen shawl in small, designed for 100g of fingering weight (=sock yarn). The yarn is red with a great gradient color change: from light red (more washed-out than pastel) to tomatoe to a dark red and back. More about the shawl next week when there will be more to show - skein is at 75/100g.	Da ich ja nicht an oben erwähnten Socken stricken konnte, war ich "gezwungen" mit einem neuen Projekt zu beginnen ;) Es wird mal wieder gehäkelt und zwar eine kleine Version des [Duinen][https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/duinen)-Tuchs. Ich habe ein Garn mit einem wunderschönen Farbverlauf genommen: von einem ausgewaschenen hellen Rot über Tomatenrot bis zu einem satten Dunkelrot. Mehr darüber nächste Woche wenn mehr zu zeigen ist - im Moment sind noch 75 von 100g auf dem Knäuel.
