NeedleworkMonday: International Scrubby [Eng/Ger]

My Tawashi - Japanese name, US yarn and German handicraft

I love to make small useful things as gifts. Friends of mine crochet and knit potholders or dish cloths. I don't like working with cotton yarn so I sometimes try new patterns that way but not more. I already had this great yarn: Cleany - seems they simply imported Red Heart's Scrubby and put it in smaller skeins ;) I have already showed you the bath mitt I made out of it and I was looking for more stuff do make with it. I saw a round spirally thingie when visiting a friend - "that's a tawashi" she told me - she had several of them in the kitchen and the bathroom, both for cleaning herself and pots. Ah, of course. A tawashi.

Now you may have already gotten the impression - I can't stand not knowing things. As soon as I was home I took a dive into the internet and found several patterns. I followed them, started knitting, after several "interesting" results adapted them for this yarn and voilà - there was my tawashi.

You can download the pattern as a PDF. Of course you can use another yarn like cotton, too, though you might have to adapt the number of stitches.

Information for those who think about the hygienics of reusable wash and dish cloths: Before laundering theses things make them dripping wet, put them on a small plate or in a bowl, put it into the microwave and activate that for 4 minutes on the highest level. Attention afterwards - it is really, really hot! But that should kill about 90% of the germs in it (I read a study about that because I had doubts, too).

This post is a test for the "hidden thumbnail" picture where the picture you see in the feed is not the first picture in the post. It should work for Steemit but not necessarily for other frontends.

Tawashi sounds so elaborate and perhaps you sparked a trend around here: the spiral wash clothes are superb <3 I love the color combo and the pattern... perhaps I would start to be more tidy with them ??? I have seen a similar yarn (I think) at Wolle Rödel. It seems to be a plastic fiber especially for cleaning?
Thank you for the pattern - perhaps there is hope I will get neat and orderly

As soon as I saw the photo I remembered the yarn that you once mentioned, ' rico (creative bubble)' , @neumannsalva !

Thank you so much, @muscara, for the link to the pattern; it is really clear :D

Good tip about the microwave. I was thinking about putting them in the dishwasher, too.

Thank you for sharing with us about tawashi and the pattern @muscara. The yarn looks difficult to work on, is it?
