#needleworkmonday :: Patching a burnt hole

Recently, I burnt a hole in my running shorts, literally.
It wasn't meant to be ironed but I did for some unknown reason that day.
The material, which was a mix of cotton and polyester or nylon, just melted through the moment the iron touched it.

The burn was quite nasty and the burnt hole had sharp edges. I was pretty much slapping myself on the forehead for such a silly mistake. Who irons a pair of running shorts??
4.jpg

I dug my stash of leftover fabric and found this yoga frog.
Just fitting to calm me down.
5.jpg

It was a bit crumpled and I had to iron it first to gauge the size (the irony!).
6.jpg

I cut off the sharper bottom part of the fabric with the zigzag scissors because I didn't want it angling in such a way but I kept the rest of the shape as it was.

Then, I started hemming all the edges:

After hemming, I pinned the patch over the burnt hole...

...and pinned it in place:

And slowly sewed around the hemmed edges onto the shorts:

I had to keep checking the bottom of the sewing to make sure that the pocket layers were not in the way. It would be another extra step to unravel the stitches if I accidentally sewed the layers when they were not meant to be sewed together.

After a while, it was done. It was a relatively quick fix and now I will be reminded to slow down, be strong, keep calm and relax when I wear this shorts.

It would have been such a waste to discard this pair of shorts when the rest of the shorts was still in good condition.

Here's wishing everyone a good week ahead and Happy #NeedleWorkMonday!

So good you were able to rescue these shorts. I would have been so angry with myself for destroying fitting shorts. But the patch you found is cute and even has a wonderful message. Now running will be much easier and super relaxed with the yoga frogs :-D
(rest assured I have made similar errors... like ironing a shirt for my father, putting the iron on the shirt and going away... yes... really. I was lucky nothing besides the shirt burned)

I am slightly happier now with the shorts haha. Yes yes! I made shorts for my once little nephews using that fabric before I came to Steemiverse and I had some cut out pieces left. Perfect for this rescue.
Oh dear.. speaking of shirts.. I have 2 hidden in some box somewhere with the iron marks. Still thinking what to do with them. Haha.
Thanks for coming by @neumannsalva!
