Wildlife of Czech Republic: banded garden spider
Hi there my Steemian friends and followers!
After introducing you to many creatures native to Mexico´s Yucatan Peninsula where I was living just until recently, I would like to continue my wildlife series here on my blog and since I am currently back to my Czech homeland, I am going to show you some interesting animals we have here :)
Yesterday, when I was exploring our garden, searching for some curious creatures, I stumbled upon this nicely colored guy who was lurking for prey in the potato leaves.
After a brief consultation with Google, I figured this fella is probably the banded garden spider (Argiope Trifasciata), a spider species that can be found in many parts of the world. According to Wikipedia, this spider usually appears from early September to late October so it probably was due to the enormous heat that we experienced earlier in June and July that these guys are already showing up, probably thinking the summer is over.
The spider was not too big, I would say just a bit over 1 cm (0.4 in) but they are actually capable of creating spider webs that can be up to 2 m (6.6 ft) long.
Now if you like animal photography, you should stay tuned for my next photo contest that might show up here on my blog later this week or during the next week. I believe the theme will be interesting to you and the contest will come with an attractive prize pool again so I am already excited about all the great entries we will get here :) Stay tuned guys!

Want to have your post on the map too?
Beautiful little fellow! :)..I don't know if we have them over here, at least I've never seen one.
I think they belong to the same family as the European garden spider, a species that probably lives in your country too :) At least it´s very common here in Central Europe.
Okay! I hope I find one someday! :)
Always is big necessary for all of our human beings but increase in population enclosed us in microwave oven boxes which are being called by us our sweet homes

That's very interesting! I think the only spider I've ever photographed is the same one (location - South Germany)
