Alaska BEACH - Zone 3 Hugel Resources !!!

avatar
(Edited)

BEAUTIFUL DAY IN UNALAKLEET, ALASKA! Where do we get our HUGEL MOUND materials? The beach by our village! There is the Unalakleet River next to our village also, which is where all the logs come from. Lots of silt, sand, soil, and driftwood. Shipping to Unalakleet is very expensive, and I am SO GRATEFUL that we don't have to pay for anything except with time, energy, and gasoline.

What a cool video full of beautiful scenery and interesting information about the environment and sustainable living! I also love fiddle heads! I hope you were able to find a bunch! Its way past the time in the season to forage for them here unfortunately..
I really enjoyed your post and look forward to reading more about your experiences homesteading in Alaska. I have a great respect for anyone willing to make a go at that way of life! :)

Hi! Welcome to Steem!

Love the video, and your previous photography and intro post. With content like that you will fit right in around here.

We get some people on here who like to impersonate others and steal their work. As such, I would like to ask if you could add a link back to your Steem blog main page either on your youtube video, or even better, in the about section of your youtube channel. It will go a long way with many curators and groups on here to have that confirmation.

Also, some of those groups put a premium on new content. I point this out to help you in the future. I am a member of a few of those groups. One of will only consider a youtube video like this if it was posted in the last 7 days, while another is more open to around two months or so. (Which this one fits into :-) )

Best of luck on your new blog, and I look forward to reading more about your Alaskan life and homestead.

Thanks,
Gene

What a beautiful place! I can spend all day there just enjoying the view. You made it even sound inviting. If only I have the resources, I will pack up my bag and go there lol!

What a stunning place to live. I always imagined Alaska being permanently covered in snow. Do you have a very long growing season?

Do you not have issues with the driftwood having too much salt absorbed into them?

Our growing season is from the end of May to September, so short. but because we have about 20 to 23 hours of sun, we have a lot of growing time. the driftwood seems to end up cured and highly usable, unless it just came in from the ocean that day. it all breaks down and rots, so that's good. 🙂

I spent some time in Unalakleet, back in the 80's when there was a boarding school there. It's a beautiful place. Is the Rendezvous still there?

Awesome! Nice to meet you!!! So many people went to the boarding school, was it Covenant High at that time? I haven't heard of the Rendezvous, but now I have to ask someone!

Yes! Covenant High. I was in from Nome. The Rondy was a snack bar, back in the day. I learned a lot there, the school - not so much. lol.
