Today we continue with one of the most beautiful birds of the planet, it is necessary to highlight the damage that has meant hunting exotic birds in their places of origin what has broken the natural balance that the species have in their ecosystems without the interaction of man, the objective to sell birds in pet shops around the world. Others that are prohibited allowed the birth of a clandestine market that is putting at risk the integrity of the birds that are fundamental piece in the maintenance of the great forests of the planet. Today it is the turn to meet the coral beak bird. Come with me to learn more about this precious bird.
The coral beak bird is a small-sized bird that belongs to the passerine bird section of the Estrildidae family, its size is only 11 centimeters long with its wings extended and weighing only 8 grams. The wonderful thing is the combination of different shades of brown, there is no dimorphism between males and females which indicates that it is difficult to know exactly to which sex it belongs.
Its variant of brown makes that there is contrast of light beige and some dark brown stripes in the zone of the throat, belly and chest, some reddish feathers complement a very attractive image of the bird. Both the lower part of its tail and beak are dark in colour while the lower part is a beautiful coral colour which combines with a kind of mask of the same colour on the back of its small head.
As for its location we have that this present in the region before the beginning of the great desert of the Sahara in where there are some leafy forests, where it can get all the food for its development, as well as the materials necessary for the construction of the nests. It is commonly hunted to be bred by breeders as it does not require special care and especially because it can adapt to different climates around the world.
I will not speak in this section of the impressive amount of sub species, since they are not only in the African continent and in my opinion this species of coral beak bird is the most beautiful, in general it is a very peaceful bird and has no problems in sharing spaces even with birds that are not of its species. Although in mating season when the males can become a little aggressive.
As for the reproduction of the coral beak bird does not have a specific time in the year so the female can lay eggs several times a year. The female can lay a maximum of six small white and round eggs, the incubation period is about 15 days maximum and once hatched the chicks will be in the nest for a period of 1 month receiving food from their parents before being able to fend for themselves and go out for food.
Coral beak birds build nests based on small branches that carefully select this work is done by both the male and female, in general is a monogamous species so it is common that they have a single pair for the rest of their lives, they can live more than 5 years in the wild.
Their diet is based on the ingestion of different types of small seeds and the consumption of pulps of different types of fruits.
