We serve steamed, stir-fried or boiled broccoli with many of our meals. By steaming the broccoli, fewer nutrients are lost in the cooking process. We like to add broccoli to roast dinners, to noodle soups and to stir fried dishes. Even our children will eat this healthy, nutritious vegetable. Broccoli can be also be eaten raw in a salad.

We grew our own purple sprouting broccoli this year but it was rather woody in the stem when we harvested it.

Broccoli is packed with fibre, vitamins C, K, B9 (folate) and A. The superfood is high in antioxidants and contains potassium, selenium and phosphorous.

Broccoli is reputed to be anti-inflammatory, to reduce cell damage and to protect against certain cancers. The vegetable can lower blood sugar levels, support a healthy heart, bone and brain function. It may also support the immune system and slow down the ageing process.
