Cilantro / Coriander herb plant ☘️

We always have cilantro (known as coriander in the UK) growing in a pot on our kitchen window sill. We have grown it from seed in the past and planted it outdoors where it thrives all year around, though it becomes tough and pervasive.

We use the nutritious herb in both our Asian and European cooking. It mixes well with garlic, ginger and parsley and can season fish and egg dishes. We like to have it in minestrone soup and Thai or Chinese noodle soup dishes 🍜.

Cilantro is packed with fibre, protein, magnesium, manganese and iron. It contains vitamins A and C and is a good source of antioxidants.

The herb is reputed to be anti-inflammatory, to reduce the risk of cancer, to aid eye and skin health and to be anti-fungal.

The herb and particularly the oil can act as a natural preservative. We finely chop both the leaves and the stems into our cooking so there is no waste.
