The Rain Has Come!

IMG_0945.JPG

It has been so dry this year and a lot of the citrus trees on the and have suffered, some of the younger ones have bore no fruit this year. I plan on getting some horse manure for them soon, to help nurture and nourish them over the winter. It rained the beginning of September which is quite unusually and led most of us to believe that we were in for a wet Autumn.

But alas it was not to be,since then there has only been 3 days of rain, but none to make any real impact on the land. But last night and today we got some heavy rain and when it eased off I went out to breathe in the fresh beautifully scented air. It was so uplifting and the light was magic. So I grabbed my phone and took a walk, enjoying how happy the trees looked and taking in the wonderful sights.

The olives are ready to be harvested, which we will begin to do next week. It will be a lot of work, but it is so worth it. The olive is divine from these trees.

I love all the Olive trees on the land, they are so majestic and I always feel so calm when I am amongst them. They are the first thing I see when I come outside.

I am lucky enough to be surrounded by orange trees as well. This tree is right outside my window and I can just about reach out and pick an orange from the tree.

A short walk away and one of the lemon trees is literally dripping with fruit. I really love that i can pick my citrus fruit as I need them, the taste is just divine.

This mandarin tree is my girls favourite, they love to climb it and spend many hours up there playing and eating the sweetest mandarins in the world.

IMG_0927.JPG

Can you tell what that is? Yes my friends it is an avocado. I love this time of year, I eat avocados everyday. Be it on bread, in smoothies or in raw cakes they are a stable in our diet.

Just how beautiful is the avocado tree, I love the leaves and they make a wonderful mulch for my garden.

The pomegranate tree showing off it's autumn leaves. Although there are quite a lot of pomegranate trees on the land, most of the fruit was eaten by tree rats. I don't know how many times I thought I had found some, only to turn them over and find that they had been eaten from the other side.

And I leave you now with one of the other majestic trees on the land. These trees are over 500 years old and they really make my heart sing just looking at them.

The Olive tree is such a magical tree. As well as producing amazing nutritious oil which is rich in Vitamin E, iron, copper, dietary fibre and the good monounsaturated fats , the leaves also have many medicinal values. Make a tea with the leaves to treat cold and flu symptoms and also to help reduce stress and fevers.

To be honest the Olive tree is kind of a cure all tree. If you are in need of some strength, you would do well to sit with an Olive Tree and absorb some of it's magical core strengthening energy. There is also The Greek tradition of hanging olive wood at the door of your home, to keep you and your loved ones safe.

I know that I feel very nurtured having these majestic elders surround my home!

how glorious! I am a little envious! :) I think I would be up there eating mandarins all day long. I have never heard of a tree rat - I'm going to look them up.

My Dad was SO bad for stealing oranges from backyards when we were in the country on weekend when we were kids. We'd scream in embarrassment DAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and he'd have orange juice dribbling down his moustache going 'mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....' ...
