Natural Medicine for Our Injured Mr Gin... & Why a Vet Is Not Always a Good Idea

The urge to immediately drag an injured animal to the vet is deep, even in people who wouldn't dream of running to the doctor for themselves. I felt it rise in me quickly, as soon as I saw the bloody pawprints across the kitchen floor.

Mr Gin is our handsome, 2.5 year old neutered male cat.

A total sweetie and cuddly lap cat, until last year in April when something happened. My daughter was away in Korea for almost 6 weeks, and I was away for 10 of those days in Vietnam. I paid a friend to come over everyday, to feed and hang out with the cats (whom he knew well) and water my plants. Suffice it to say I came home to almost dead plants and my Mr Gin nowhere to be found. It took 6 days of my calling, coaxing, more calling & singing to lure him out. But he has not been the same since. I would say he may have been kicked or hurt. By whom? We may never know.

He rarely comes home for more than a meal now, and FREAKS OUT if we try to pick him up. He sleeps 'somewhere' out there in the wilds of our Thai village, but he hasn't slept at home since. We've been so sad about it and have tried for almost a year. We buy his favourite treats. We sit in the driveway and pat him and chat with him when he's obviously too scared to come into the house.

It had been getting a tiny, weeny bit better .... and then he wandered in one night last week, limping and with a badly bleeding foot.

I had to make a quick decision.

Taking him to the vet and freaking him out even more might damage the tiny thread of trust we have restored with him after the cat sitter from hell. We love him SOOOO MUCH and his happiness and safe feeling matter as much as his obviously badly injured back paw. What if he got back from the vet ordeal, and ran away forever?

So what to do....??

Ploi, my 15 year old daughter, gave him his favourite food while I lay close on my belly on the kitchen floor, trying to shine the flashlight from my phone on his foot to see what the problem was. He wouldn't let us near it! He hissed and panicked when I tried to touch his foot, which was clearly badly infected after having a claw torn out.

I made a snap decision.

I needed something anti-bacterial that could be applied without us constraining him, and I needed something to draw the infection out. Whatever it was, it would need to be fast and preferably painless and non-threatening, since I would have to apply it laying on the concrete driveway with him before he ran off for the night.

The answer was actually fairly simple.. It was painless. And I didn't need to touch his foot at all.

Ploi distracted him with cat treats, while I rapidly soaked his foot from about 4 inches away with sprayed colloidal silver. He didn't like it and looked a bit bewildered but he didn't run. And then, super quickly, I broke open 2 activated charcoal tablets and dropped the powder straight onto and into the wet wound, without touching him.

He bolted. I felt terrible. I worried and tried to simply send him calming energy healing.

Next morning he was back. His foot was less oozy and NO LIMP. Amazing!

I applied the same thing - colloidal silver spray and charcoal powder - again x 2 per day for the next 2 days. We were thrilled that he started coming home for breakfast too!!

The last 5 days he has been a changed cat. He wanders in twice a day for food and stays for maybe half an hour, clearly less edgy, less panicked.

The day before yesterday he jumped up on my lap and simply sat. A first for him in almost a year! I nearly cried.

His foot was dry within 2 days and we simply made sure he got great food, and lots of it. The only drawback? That black powder gets EVERYWHERE - him and me!! And he was grooming constantly - indignantly! - to get it off his belly. LOL.

Tonight he was waiting when we got home, and he allowed me to sit close and photograph his paw.

He's not in any pain that we can observe, and walking and running quite freely agin. He's letting me stroke him down to his back haunch, but I haven'tried to touch his paw yet. Slowly slowly.

I'm just so grateful that simple, natural medicine is KIND and EFFECTIVE, not just for people, but for traumatized animals. The simple combination of colloidal silver spray and activated charcoal was SUPERB for an obviously painful and septic flash wound. It worked well and has enabled our little man to stay at home and find some trust as we care for him.

Feeling blessed, and grateful for the simplicity of natural medicine. And for my sweet little buddy, Mr Gin.

It is so helpful that both charcoal & colloidal silver not only don't sting, but are helpful systemically if he licks & ingests. Even the wildest boys know when they are loved & relent in the end.

@trucklife-family here, I am so happy to hear his foot has healed so well. It is tough with our animal friends, not being able to communicate with them fully does make it difficult to know what to do, I am glad you treated him, they do respond so well to natural medicine and carbon is great, I use it if I have a tooth infection.

I use it systemically (for things like food poisoning) & always have a strip of activated charcosl.in my handbag, my backpack, our first aid kit & our car. Magic stuff.

Ahh! That touched my heart so! So sorry your Gin had been so traumatized but I'm glad his trust is beginning to return and he recognized your loving care! You have such a kind heart!
We have a dog that we could not take to the vet so we have to rely on natural medicines and they work like a charm getting him through some major events!
Thanks for sharing Gin's story and I hope he has many happy years with you coming more back to his loving home!

There's a special place in hell for paid pet sitters & so-called animal lovers who are cruel when no one is looking. Damn... wish I BELIEVED in such simple things as heaven & hell.

Glad your dog also responds well to natural medicines. 💚
