A Shirt on Sunday - Who the f**k is Frank Zappa

avatar

The #ShirtOnSunday theme was kicked off by @hockney who has a vast selection to choose from and I expect he has this shirt too.

A couple of years ago I heard that a project was underway to preserve the recorded archives of Frank Zappa. I am far from the most dedicated of Zappa fans, but I enjoy a lot of his music. I donated to the Kickstarter at the level that got me this shirt. Thousands of others chipped in too with some giving many thousands of dollars!

The project is fronted by actor Alex Winter (of Bill and Ted fame). He has been posting videos all through the fundraiser.

Backers have had access to various videos that have been pulled from the archives. Frank recorded everything it seems. I was surprised to receive this postcard a few months back. Alex must have been busy signing these.

Eventually there should be a documentary that I will get access to. I look forward to it.

I love things like Kickstarter. The fact that projects can go directly to fans to raise funds is amazing. I was thinking of having a Kickstarter/Patreon/Gofundme pot every month to support awesome things. The funds will come from the frivolous stuff I spend money on currently :)

I have supported a few things I liked the look of. The latest is this comic by a Steemian. I think @Fundition is supposed to be a way of crowdfunding with Steem, but I have not sussed it out yet.

Fundition is one of those things I just never got my head around on here. The other one is SteemHunt haha. I can kind of see what they're doing... I think.

More than 20 years ago, every year in my hometown there was the "Motterloch party". The beginning of the "Zappanale" in Bad Doberan (East Germany) after the "Wende".
Every year in July, we are honored and honored by this extraordinary artist.
There are guest musicians from all over the world and we have our fun.
We even have a memorial law for our favorite and "Arf Society" was sued by the widow for allegedly unesthetizing it.
I think we have lost but the monument is still there;)

Zappa deserves more recognition so it's cool there could be a festival for him.

Oh wow, that is really awesome that they are going to make something like that. Or that they have already made it and will be releasing it soon. I remember how excited I was when I found out that one of my favorite bands records all of their live shows and they sell those.

They will have no shortage of material for this one. It's a big job sorting through out all and ensuring it can be preserved. Nice job for someone.

That... is awesome. I loved “Joes Garage” when I was a kid. The man is a bit of legend.
