'Sitch' - New Original Music - A Bit of a Boring 10 Minute Songwriting Challenge - Electronic/Instrumental + Walkthrough
So this turned out to be a much more
sort of straight-forward, dancey sort of thing, which wasn't my intention when I started this 10 minute songwriting challenge. However, at minute six or seven I realized that I didn't really hit the mark for what I wanted to do, so I just rolled with it, haha. I don't dislike this, and think if I put in some real time it could be something cool, so I figured it at least deserved a post, if only to analyze why I find it a bit boring. I started with Track 1, an Ableton wavetable synth preset, which I played around with (probably for a little too long, lol), and wrote the line below. Though it's all single notes, it outlines a Gmin, Ebmaj7, Cmin, and Ebmaj7 again before repeating. Track 2 was originally just a little plucky synth, which accented certain upbeats, but I got a little carried away and filled it, creating the giant 4 octave arpeggios pictured below, so it sort of became a bassline too.
Track 1, Starting Point of the Idea

Track 3 was sort of an 'actual' bass synth, which plays
the line below, mostly roots and 5ths, with that little Eb to D line at the top each time. This was another Wavetable synth; I was running out of time, so picking these presets was a lot easier, hehe. Track 4 was going to be a bass part, which would replace 3, but I bumped it up 2 octaves, and just left it. At this point I had like a minute, so I just dropped in a 909 kit, and a 4 on the floor pattern. It sort of turned out kind of... I dunno, Mortal Kombat movie theme-ish, which is fine, though originally I wanted it to feel more '80s-ish. Maybe I'll spend some time and try and build something around this, see if it's not recoverable in some way, hehe.
Hope you enjoy!
