I didn't have anything particularly

interesting to share today aside from a few small edits I made to the idea from yesterday, which I didn't think really warranted a full post, so we're going with a throwback tune! I try to avoid doing throwback songs too much, as it feels a bit like cheating since the song is already finished, but they are fun to revisit. I don't often listen to these old songs, so its enjoyable to go through them and remember the when they were recorded, and the stuff happening in my life at the time. My first songs were recorded on Tascam 4 Track recorders, but shortly after, I started recording onto my laptop. At the time, Garageband was the only thing I had access to, and it was WAY less advanced than it is now (nowadays, although free, it's a pretty decent DAW).

I ripped Fruity Loops

in high school, and was using that for drums for a little bit, but when that computer died, I was back to square one. Fortunately, I found an application called 'Doggiebox', which was just basically a standalone application for drums, which had a grid system in which you'd map the various hits. The samples that were available for it weren't awful, though there wasn't much variation in articulation. This song is one of probably nine or ten that I recorded at that time period, using that application for the drums. It is a punk-ish cover of the musical number from 'Billy Madison', and was intended to have vocals, though at that time I wasn't comfortable singing much, and didn't have a mic to use. This song has a TON of key changes, with basically every section modulating elsewhere, which was a revelation to me at the time, and really helped me to understand how much of a difference a simple modulation could make in a song. The quality of the actual recording isn't great, and I knew almost nothing about mixing, so there was absolutely no compression, EQ, or anything like that added, so apologies if the levels get wild at points, hehe.

Hope you enjoy today's throwback song!
