A couple of nights ago I was a bit bored,

Track 4, Scalar Line
so I decided to set a quick 5 minute timer and see what happened. I wasn't sure if I was going to share this, as its not really a 'song', just another ROLI obsession exercise, haha, but, I didn't have anything else to write a full post about. I tried to make a new break for the song Host I shared a few days ago, which you can check out here if you want, though I think it's either missing something, or one of the instruments needs a different tone/timbre... haven't figured it out yet. Anyway, back to this tune. I started with Track 3, though I wound up placing another track above it. It just outlined a really basic bassline, playing E, E, G, B, then C, E, A, B. We're in E-minor, so I made a similar line in Track 2, just also including some passing tones in between that make the key more clear. Although I was using a lot of synths from the ROLI 'Shadow Corrosion' library which have all kinds of cool effects and parameters, I didn't really spend any time on that, as 5 minutes can be over WAY too fast if I like myself get distracted making tiny little alterations, hehe.

Track 2, First Track Added

Listen to Minut here...

Track 4 is next, and used a bass synth, though not in

Tracks 6 and 7
a super low register, and played a more scalar line. This is something I would change if I decided to use this idea, as there are too many major and minor 2nds (as it moves up and down the scale) that clash with the chords being built around them. It would probably work better with a different instrument, something lighter, in a high register, as its too close to other stuff in pitch and makes for some unintentional dissonances. Track 5 was a lead/melody line which I played one time through, and just left it as is, with some off beat notes, as the attack on that synth was long enough to make them sound intentional, lol. I added Track 6, which just plays some arpeggios over the second 4 bars of each section, along with Track 7, which adds some single note swells.

Overall, not a bad result, and I managed to get more than the usual 3 or 4 tracks in 5 minutes, so that's cool. Hope you enjoy!
