'Meldin2' - New Original Music - A Quick, 20 Minute Timed Challenge Using the New Melda Sounds - Electronic/Instrumental + Walkthrough
I decided to try and do another quick,
20 minute timed writing challenge, using some of the new drum sounds and synths from Melda Productions, and this was the result. I think this is a cool idea, and something I'd like to maybe take a part of and try and build a more complete song around. Keep in mind, there was essentially no mixing done, as I mostly focused on finding sounds in that 20 minute period and trying to quickly lay some parts down. Tracks 1, 2 and 3 are the drums, which utilize a couple of different kits. Track 1 is the kick, which only comes in once every measure (we're in 7/4 here) on the first beat. Track 2 is the snares, which wound up being pretty thin, and kind of tinny, though I think if I mixed this sound with another snare, would be much cooler. Track 3 is the hi-hats, which are very 'drum machine-y' in sound. Track 4 is the wobbly, sub bass, which is an instrument from the Melda Sound Factory library that has quite a bit of variation (was used in yesterday's song too). I figured it might be interesting to have the straight 1/8th note hi-hat pattern, with the triplet 'wub wub' of the bass, all in 7.
Track 6, Ascending Arpeggios
Listen to Meldin2 here...
That bass just drones on a low B for the whole track, with
everything else using chords with a B in them (specifically chords from Bminor). Track 5 plays the root notes of those chords, one per bar, for 4 bars: B (minor) 2x, then a G, and E (technically Eadd11, since the A is used by the following tracks in this chord). Track 6 plays these chords specifically, ascending arpeggios with a synth stab sound, also from Melda. Track 7 follows these arpeggios, doing a call and response thing. I don't know how much I love the pattern, as it comes in an 1/8th note before the bass, sort of awkward, but I do like the sound of this instrument, so I'll try and use it more. I will definitely try and sit with this for a day or two, and see if I can't try and make a more complete song idea around it, add some more layers, etc, as I think its got some potential.
Enjoy today's song! Thanks for listening!
