'Hosting' - New Original Music - A Rough Idea, with Some Potential - Electronic/Instrumental + Walkthrough

I was playing around with this idea

Track 5, Bass, ROLI's 'Conemelt'
last night, though I did it using just my laptop speakers, as I was at my friends house, and after listening to it today, the levels are DEFINITELY in need of work. I didn't really spend any time on that, since I was using the built-in speakers, aside from a few small tweaks, so I'm going to spend some time tonight trying to fix all of these discrepancies. However, I like the general idea, and think that, with some work, this could be a really cool, weird idea. The session is in 10/8, and I initially imagined it being sort of fast and spastic, but as I added stuff, it wound up being more elongated, which I think is cooler, at least for this. I started with a synth which was recorded into Track 1, and, after some effects and beat preserve chops, turned into more of a percussive thing. Track 2 is a Nerve loop, with hi-hats and a sort of clap/rimshot sound, which I added Valhalla's Supermassive Delay to. I set the delay time SUPER short, which sort of just made the loop a little brighter, almost metallic, which was totally unintended, but worked nicely.

Track 3 is just the kick drum,

which initially used some random kit, though I decided to just go with a 909 kick, at least as a placeholder. This one of the tracks that is WAY too loud, so it'll need to be adjusted, along with the instruments, to be a little more normal, if I stick with this kit. The last of the drums is Track 4, which works as a snare, though its sort of a bigger sound, somewhere between a timpani and a snare. This is from the ROLI Cinematic Impact pack, and has a cool sound, but is again too loud, and maybe needs to be doubled by something a bit more punchy, as it sort of sounds like just a wash of snare sound.

Track 7, One of a few synth layers

Once again, when it comes to instruments, I went

Tracks 15 and 16
a little ROLI crazy, using all ROLI sounds except for one Izotope synth, haha. Track 5 is the bass, which sounds awesome, but got a little lost, so that'll be another adjustment that needs to be made. The progression is just two 4 bar sections, first Dmin, Gmin, and Ebmin, then Dmin, Fmin, and Gmin. Initially, these weren't all minor chords, instead using a more diatonic progression on top of the bass, but I thought it might be more fun to get weirder, and the minor chord planing worked out. Tracks 6 and 7 both work together, mostly just hitting root notes, but providing some really cool, distorted, glitchy textures. Again, levels aren't great, but I think after fixing that, these will work better. In the 4th bar of each section, there is a rest (with no chords), where these add a little fill, which sort of just sounds like noise now, though will be something much more defined when I spend some time on it.

Track 8 is the high pitched

string sort of sound, which outlines chord tones; I like the idea here, though I'm not sure if I want it to play as often as it does, instead maybe using it just to accent some stuff. Track 9 was recorded from another ROLI synth, and adds the weird bleeps and bloops that fade out at the beginning of the 'break' section. Tracks 11, 12 and 13 are grouped together, and are just little audio clips that are used for the transitional parts. It started with just a noisey swell sound, though I thought that was a little boring, so I found some weirder, digital sounds that worked to build things up to our 'main' sections. Tracks 15 and 16 are grouped together, hard panned to the far left and far right respectively, and may not make the cut, though I'm going to try some other instruments and see how I feel about this. Track 17 was a last minute addition and just accents those fills in the 4th bar; this also may not make the cut, we'll see what happens when I spend some more time tweaking it.

Overall, I like the idea here, though its currently a bit disjointed and wonky. However, there is potential, so I'm going to my best to bring it out!
