I spent some time with the changed

New drum group changes, volume and echo automation
version of this song from yesterday, and didn't wind up adding much, but I did edit the arrangement and effects and such quite a bit. Grouped at the top, we have Tracks 2, 3 and 4, all of which provide the liquid, high-end percussion sounds that begin the song. I altered the two fade outs from yesterday's version; the first time around, two of the instruments fade out initially, and the last fades out over the bar before the 'Chorus', as the echo's feedback fades in and creates a sort of wash that it disappears into. The second time, there is an actual fade out, which works better there, as the bass fades out too. I didn't edit the 808s, but after listening to this a few times, I'm going to just use one of them. Currently, there are two, one that has a fade out in the sample and one that doesn't (both are played with Ableton's Simpler instrument). I'm going to keep the one with the fade-out, as it has a better tone overall, and I think will work a bit better with the vibe of the song, instead of the constant droning 808. Jumping ahead on the track list, but still drum related, we have Track 14, which uses LABS percussion pack. This provides the actual drum sounds used over the 'Chorus' (I didn't really intend for it to be a Chorus, but it works). First, I deleted all the single kick hits that accented the beginning of some parts, which immediately made the parts with the drums more interesting. I extended the ride pattern, which I think helped to make it feel a little more constantly driving, instead of just accenting the first 3 1/4 note hits like it did before. On the first chord change (Dmin to Fmin), the Fmin now comes in a 1/8 beat early too, as does the ride, which adds a little more movement. I may wind up doing this for the Bmin to Fmin too, as it feels a little odd just played straight.

Tracks 9 and 13, New Diatonic Section, Plays Once at the End of the Song

Listen to HeadQuart2 here...

Now getting into instruments, Track 9 still provides the

Track 14, LABS Percussion w/ New Ride Pattern
synth bass part, but has a new section at the end, only played one time, which all the instruments harmonize around. I decided to, for 8 bars, play a diatonic progression, so we start on Dmin to Bb, then C to F, before returning to the more dissonant Dmin/Fmin/Bmin/Fmin part, as the song fades out. Track 11 was the heavy, phaser-y synth bass which just played a single D as it faded out in yesterday's version. I recorded this to audio and reversed it, so it swells into itself, though it's a little quiet, or perhaps muddied by the 808s, so I'll need to go through and work on volume levels and such next. Track 13 is the same LABS modular piano sound as yesterday, though as mentioned before, it has some little changes where chords anticipate a bar line by an 1/8th beat. Tracks 20-22 are now grouped together, and are those little audio clips that take us into the Chorus sections. 22 is a new addition, and is cool, but I think perhaps needs to be replaced by something else. Finally, we have Track 23, which provides a little melody line. The only change here is that I added a pitch bend as it fades out, so it fits with the Dmin chord that is played on other instruments.

Hope you like the changes! Still a lot of tweaking and altering needed, but I think it's way cooler than where it started!

I liked it, I also listened to Kontar while at your SoundCloud page, I think I liked that one a little bit more than this one, but both were good, and I could not tell you why I liked one over the other.

Is this all software driven music? no recordings of instruments, just through a software program? If so really impressed with the sound.

Yep, it's all digital. Some of the instruments are built with real samples which the software utilizes so you can play them as an instrument. But a lot of it is just synthesized.

I enjoyed both the tunes I listened to tonight, so I appreciate the effort you put into them.
