So I took yesterday's idea and cut out

Track 9, ROLI bass
a whole bunch of stuff, and wound up with a solid foundation for something a lot more interesting. It definitely needs a lot of work, though I figured out the general idea. There are sort of 3 parts now, all based around what the bass does: a section where it just drones along on a D, a section where we have a D to F, then C to D, and finally, the same progression from yesterday idea D, F, B and F (all with minor chords). The liquidy drums drop out at a couple points, which you can see in the automation in the overview screenshot above. I think one of these parts will stay, but the other will just get a bit thinner, maybe by removing 2 of the drum parts and leaving just 1 going underneath, instead of everything fading out, as it feels sort of abrupt. Track 5 was the snares, which are muted here and probably will be deleted.

Track 11, LABS Modular Pianos

Listen to HeadQuart here...

Track 10 was that heavy, 80s synth from yesterday

Track 11 Effects
which just plays a single D as it fades out... it's a bit of random addition, so I was thinking of recording it, then reversing the audio to have it swell it at some points. Track 11 is a new addition, using one of the modular pianos from LABS. It's used over two parts, pictured above, and has a pretty heavy Supermassive echo/reverb on it, pictured to the left here. Track 12 is the first of a few drum tracks, and I really like the pattern over the 'heavy' parts, but the kicks that I used to accent certain parts feel totally out of place, so I'm going to restrict the drums to those heavy sections only. Tracks 15 and 16 both are weird little samples from a pack I got a while back, filled with digital bleeps and bloops. These are used in the rests before the 'heavy sections' and sound really cool. Overall, I like the changes, and I will continue to work on this, hopefully making it a lot cooler each time.

Also, if you're a musician using a DAW, Native Instruments and Izotope are giving away two plug-ins totally for free, 'Hybrid Keys' (the full pack, not just the few instruments they include in the Komplete Start package) and Ozone Elements, an awesome mastering tool. They're only available for free for the next 12 or 13 days, so definitely check it out here if you're interested.
