I downloaded a program last night

Track 9, Weird Bass, Will Be Removed
called 'Loopback' which allows you to route audio from your computer to other locations, which, for me, lets me record things from an internet browser, or video game, or other source, directly into Ableton. So, I figured I'd play around with some samples, and share the session as it (hopefully) turns into a real tune. Here, I recorded an a cappella female vocal part from YouTube, which has a sort of Middle Eastern vibe, which I then dropped to half speed/half tempo and also reversed, to create a sort of vocal layer to add things on. As of now, it feels a bit separate from the stuff around it, as I wasn't really thinking 'song' here, more just an exercise, but the idea (and the drums particularly) are something I'd like to build on. Track 1 added a kick, which works, but I think needs to feel a little more hazy to fit with the slower vocals and the sound of the drums.

Track 13, LABS Arctic Swells

Listen to Getten here...

Tracks 6, 7 and 8 provide the snares

Vocal Sample from YouTube
and hats, which are heavily effected, particularly the snares. The snare has Portal added to it, and also some of Ableton's Grain Delay, to create some cool, spacey sounds. I think the beat is perhaps a bit too slow, or maybe the snares just need to be doubled up, and it might feel more interesting. Track 9 was a random addition, adding a distorted, buzzy bass, which definitely DOES NOT fit, so that'll be removed. Just figured I'd leave it, since this is sort of an example of my process of playing around with things in Ableton. Track 10 was a super delay heavy synth that I thought I muted, but apparently pops back in, so I need to just delete it, haha. Track 11 added a LABS instrument, the Arctic Swells, which I thought might work with the spacey vibe. Frankly, I think they're a little too busy, at least as far as the changes, so maybe I'll try and simplify that and start to make this feel a bit more cohesive. Track 12 was another sort of just tone test, adding a weird, woody sort of synth percussion. Again, not something I'm going to leave.
