Vals Venezolano
Este género tiene su origen en el Vals Europeo, traído por los españoles durante su colonización y adaptado e interpretado, conforme al paso del tiempo, a las maneras venezolanas, por lo tanto sus cualidades folclóricas se vienen a dar luego de la independencia. Por lo tanto puede decirse que tuvo sus inicios en el siglo XVIII, sin embargo su auge como baile de salón popular se acentuó a mitad del siglo XIX.
Con un compás de 3/4 y su característica Sincopa Criolla (una blanca seguida de una negra). El uso del piano en el vals era sobre todo protagónico en los llamados "vals de salón", donde se desarrollaba un vals de 2 partes, estructura que sirvió de inspiración para guitarristas, como Antonio Lauro y sus famosos valses adaptados a la guitarra.
El vals de tradición oral, o vals popular, utiliza para su ejecución los instrumentos típicos de cada región venezolana, siendo cultivado mayormente en los Andes y en la región centro-occidental de Venezuela. En la región andina, el violín y la bandola son instrumentos solistas, acompañados de la guitarra, triple y cuatro. En Lara se ejecuta con violín, mandolina, cuatro y guitarra.2
La melodía, generalmente en ocho compases, es entrecortada e insinuante, rompiendo de forma atrevida con la métrica europea y jugando con los silencios y compases de forma graciosa y saltarina. Esta influencia del valse llega a los serenateros y compositores románticos, quienes divulgaron ampliamente el vals-canción. En los Andes venezolanos se crea el pasillo, forma de valse andino, con alargada presencia en las regiones colombianas contiguas.
La estructura musical característica de los valses populares consta de tres partes. Aún cuando muchos músicos firman sus composiciones con sus nombres, la mayoría han dejado sus creaciones en el anonimato.
En la tradición popular se pueden encontrar el vals en muchos bailes y manifestaciones folklóricas, como el joropo y el tamunangue, entre otros.

Venezuelan Waltz
This genre has its origin in the European Waltz, brought by the Spaniards during their colonization and adapted and interpreted, according to the passage of time, to Venezuelan ways, therefore their folkloric qualities come after independence. Therefore it can be said that it had its beginnings in the 18th century, however its rise as a popular ballroom dance was accentuated in the middle of the 19th century.
With a 3/4 beat and its characteristic Creole Sincopa (a white one followed by a black one). The use of piano in the waltz was especially important in the so-called "lounge waltz", where a 2-part waltz was developed, a structure that served as an inspiration for guitarists, such as Antonio Lauro and his famous guitar waltzes.
The waltz of oral tradition, or popular waltz, uses for its execution the typical instruments of each Venezuelan region, being cultivated mostly in the Andes and in the central-western region of Venezuela. In the Andean region, the violin and the band are solo instruments, accompanied by the guitar, triple and four. In Lara he plays with violin, mandolin, four and guitar. 2
The melody, usually in eight measures, is choppy and insinuating, breaking boldly with European metrics and playing with the silences and compasses in a funny and jumping way. This influence of the valse reaches the serenaders and romantic composers, who widely disseminated the waltz-song. In the Venezuelan Andes the corridor is created, an Andean valse shape, with an elongated presence in the adjacent Colombian regions.
The characteristic musical structure of popular waltzes consists of three parts. Even though many musicians sign their compositions with their names, most have left their creations in anonymity.
In the folk tradition you can find the waltz in many dances and folkloric manifestations, such as the joropo and tamunangue, among others.
