Rearranging my music room

Hello, and welcome to my page!

My music room was starting to get all cluttered up with stuff that I needed storage space for, and it was getting to the point enough open floor space to work up there. I decided to rearrange the room to create more storage space along one of the walls of the room so I could get more space to work in. I had been using the long wall in the room for my work bench with the recording equipment, and the shorter wall for storage. That meant switching sides of the room with my recording equipment and my shelves.

This picture is from the end of January 2019, this was the setup that I had in the room. The wall on the left side of the picture had shelves on it, and a fair amount of stuff piled in front of the shelves. That wall is the same length as the right hand wall, but there's a closet that takes up some of the wall space, so there's less usable wall space.

If you've ever rearranged a room that has a lot of stuff in it, you know that it's a lot like a game of Tetras. First you move stuff away from one wall, finding places to put all the stuff you move without blocking your ability to move other stuff. Some stuff got carried out into the hall to get it out of the way so that other stuff could be moved.

Once I had all the stuff off the shelves and out of the way, I took all the shelf brackets off that wall so that I could use them somewhere else. Then I had to move everything off the work bench so that I could move the bench across the room to the wall that I had taken the shelves off of. Of course, once I got the bench moved, I had to put all the stuff back on it to get it out of the way. I hooked the computer back up along with the monitor speakers so that I could listen to music while I was continuing the work in the room. There's definitely less space along this wall, but it works out pretty well for the computer desk and other stuff.

On the other side of the room, I had a big pile of all the stuff that I had moved.

I didn't have to change the stuff at the end of the room very much, I mostly left it the way that it has been. It's the best place in the room for the big speakers. I had to pile other stuff there as part of moving all the stuff.

Here's another look at the computer work bench from the other end of the room. You can see how the closet takes up a fair amount of wall space.

That was about all I got done the first day. I wanted to put up some shelves on the other side of the room, but I didn't want to use the same type of brackets, so I had to wait until the next day to get stuff for the shelf project. I had decided to use milk crates to put the shelf boards on. I needed 3 for each shelf layer, but I didn't have enough of them.

The next day, I went to the local big box lumber store and bought the crates that I needed to set up 2 shelves. I laid the crates on their side with the opening facing out so that I could use them for storage space as well as holding up the shelf. I have books in some of them, and other stuff in the rest of them. All of the stuff that was on the shelves on the other side of the room was piled on the new shelves.

I also bought 6 of the largest L shelf brackets that I could find to put on the wall above the stacked shelves to hold up my wide shelf board. That shelf board is 16 inches wide, the other 2 shelves are 12 inch wide boards.

It's still a bit of a mess, but it's a lot better than it had been, and I have more open floor space now for setting up to do music recording. I even cleaned up the end of the room a bit more. I don't need to hook the big amplifier and big speakers up for most of the things that I would be working on up there, but I'll eventually get it hooked up.

Most of the recording that I've done so far has been directly into the computer through my audio interface, either with a microphone, or with the instrument plugged directly into the interface. Now that I have the room mostly done, I need to start thinking about doing some more music recording. I have a couple of songs that I need to get back to.

That's all I have for this post, thanks for stopping by to check it out!

You've definitely got some gear! It's been acquired over a long period I assume. Do you play all those instruments yourself or do you have others come over and help you out?

I was a bass player in a local band for about 20 years, most of the gear that I have is from that time. I play the bass guitars myself when I make a recording. The drums are just there because they were given to me, I don't play them. I need to find a new home for them, someone who would play them.

Ah ok, I figured as much. I had images of you will all those instruments strapped yo you playing away like some sort of musical ninja...But that image was just a pipe-dream. Lol.

I played bass and trumpet in a jazz band a little...More trumpet than bass. I also play the piano (started at 5 years old.) I come from a fairly musical family and am pleased to have had the chance to get involved myself. (No, it wasn't the Partridge Family.) Lol.

Wow, that is quite the haul! You are lucky that you have the space for all of that stuff! My wife would be going nuts! Very cool post! It reminds me of a post I saw by @steevc a while ago where he was showing his recording setup!
