MOVIE REVIEW - "Toy Story 4" (2019)

Synopsis: Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the gang embark on a journey with Bonnie and a new toy called Forky. The adventure soon turns into an unexpected reunion when Woody's slight drift takes him to a long-lost toy, Bo Peep.

After establishing itself as an extremely profitable (financially speaking) animation trilogy and highly acclaimed by critics and fans, much speculation has been made about the making of a new film. However, the conclusion of the saga was so sensational (it ended the cycle perfectly), that a new movie sounded like something totally disposable. But when talking about the Disney / Pixar duo, the sky seems to be the limit and the result of this new sequence was bigger, better and even more incredible.

One of the nicest things about becoming an adult is to grow up without letting the soul of a child fall into oblivion. Going to the movies and being able to reconnect with the not too distant past and reliving various sensations through a movie is a fantastic thing. This is the most striking feature in Toy Story 4, because despite a new, well-grounded narrative structure, what weighs most is the nostalgic power it carries with it throughout the projection.

Almos the entire group already seen in the previous films is back, but this time the adventure everyone faces is something much more challenging and relatively more complex (compared to the plots of their predecessors). The script invests in new elements that are totally assertive (the creation of Forky, for example, was something very well planned) and together with already known elements, resulted in a spectacular combination.

The protagonism of the characters is much more divided (which makes everything even more fun, because the jokes are even better) and the addition of the new characters was very assertive. Everything happens in an organic way, well built and when the new characters join the old ones, the agglutination becomes one of the trumps that increase even more the quality of the project.

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen again lead the cast of voices that continues even sharper. Their synergy with other cast names (such as Annie Potss and Keanu Reeves, for example) is very transparent and the on-screen impression is something like a large gathering of longtime friends. This is mainly due to the essence of each toy, which is as striking as its own presences.

In its more layered narrative (including some sub-plots), the script is built with a more agitated pace and with more surprises along the way. It is a complete party, entitled to a trip full of confusion but at the end of everything, converge with a sentimentality of unimaginable proportions and that possibly will make many people move easily (and I venture to say, until cry in the cinema armchair).

Impeccable technical quality. Minimalist photography (whether in color or format), competent scene editing (and conversing with the movie itself at all times) composite soundtrack and used in an irredeemable way (worth mentioning that in the most dramatic moments is something surreal!) And digital effects even more realistic and more fluid (especially in scenes that require faster movement).

Director Josh Cooley does a quality work that follows the flow of previous films but adds something more and brings back to the new - and possible - fans, the chance to see a new world full of adventures and the older fans, the opportunity perfect to revisit a world full of magic that refers to the pure innocence of the most infantile phase of our lives, bringing us memories that warm the soul in a sweeping way.

Without a doubt, the Disney / Pixar partnership managed to find the perfect excuse to bring the Toy Story franchise back to theaters, and in Toy Story 4 this was more than evident, because in addition to making a film simply unforgettable (and extremely rich in detail) still managed to close once and for all the story of one of the most beloved characters in the entire class, the fearless sheriff Woody.
