My Rating

I really love DC animation, and this is one of the best to come out. I would give it a 85/100.

Trailer

Spoiler Alert

I will discuss some of the early plot lines and some things that give parts of story away. I will try to not give away the plot twists and other aspects of the movie that are best left to the viewing, but if you are a purest, and don't want to see anything other than a review and a trailer, don't read any further. Just jump down and upvote the post! :)

Expanded Plot

Convinced that Darkside will return and enslave the earth, Superman and the Justice League launch a first strike in an attempt to destory Darkside's home, the war world Apokolips.

But Darkside knowing their plans, ambushes and easily defeats the entire Justice League.

And that's the first 5 minutes.

The rest of the movie takes place two years in the future, after Darkside has destroyed much of Earth's civilization. A few surviving League members, including a powerless Clark Kent, Raven, and Constantine, are forced back into action when Darkside initiates his final plan - to drain the Earth's molten core for it's resources.

In a race against time to stop Darkside, the League joins forces with the Suicide Squad and attempts another assault on Apokolips.

What I Liked

In Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, DC takes off the gloves and shows a more realistic account of what would happen when super powered heroes battle super powered villains. Arms are pulled off. Bodies are splattered into walls and floors. Super heroes die... or worse are captured by Darkside.

DC does a great job with their animation and Apokolips War is a continuation of their distinct style of action animation. And man oh man was there a lot of action in this movie. The heavy action combined with the more realistic battles left me on more than one occasion saying out loud, "Oh my... wow."

I also liked how DC had the Teen Titans and the Suicide Squad joining forces with the Justice League to defend the Earth. Raven plays a central role in the movie, and I like the added complexity to her character. We get a better idea why she is such a dark character as we see the constant battle she undergoes trying to contain her father.

Meanwhile, the Suicide Squad provides some much needed comic relief. The movie is very dark and having Harley Quinn laughing and twirling while she bashes bad guys brains in helps keep the movie from being to serious.
