Mum Blog : Well that was fun...

First off... If you're iffy about talking about bodily functions you wanna close this window stat.

Second... If you didn't already know, being pregnant is not easy. Don't let those pregnancy photo shoots on instagram fool you. I'm pretty sure those women are mythical creatures.

My fabulous dream of having a painting day on Friday went up in flames in a massive way. Could have said it went down the toilet but sadly nothing went down the toilet on Friday which is basically the crux of problem which lasted two days.

Two, whole, days.... 🚫💩

Side note, as I'm over sharing, I'm thinking about the wisdom of sharing this and cementing this experience on the blockchain. My only hope is that by sharing this another expectant Mumma who's going through something similar will read it and know she's not alone..

So to catch up the newbies..

On Wednesday I started my new no sugar, high fibre diet hoping to keep gestational diabetes at bay.

I continued on like a trooper on Thursday thinking "Ok, you gots this!". I ate healthy, avoided all the sugary temptations and focused on healthy treats instead like fruit and popcorn...

Don't know what happened although I'm thinking it's the amount of salt I had vs the lack of water I had that day but on Friday morning I was backed up like this 50 lane highway in China.

An hour plus on the throne, in extreme pain and panic I called Hubby, who then called our midwife who then called me.

Let me just say how glad we were that we had a midwife at our beck and call, ready to assist and give advice on any and every situation.

She asked a few questions and to our relief we came to the conclusion the baby is safe (water didn't break, no bleeding, no contractions etc) and unfortunately I'm going through major, MAJOR constipation.

The horror 😱😱😱

I sat on the throne most of Friday morning, then gave up that afternoon opting to massage my bowels (yes you can do that!) in bed where I eventually passed out in pain.

Woke up and give the throne another go, have a cry, ask my facey to send me reiki healing then finally I thought maybe laxatives would help..

🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Another call to Hubby who calls the midwife who tells him to talk to the chemist. Hour or so later he's home mixing me up a very low dose of laxatives that should take effect in the next 8 to 12 hours....

8 to 12 hours.......

So you know... Saturday was a heap of fun...

Still backed up but still couldnt really go but them laxatives were finally kicking in.. You can just imagine..

To make things worse. We had so much to do on Saturday since we were having our grandparents over for a long awaited, highly anticipated visit on Sunday.

And there I was on Saturday with my face changing colour like a 🌈 and wobbling out to the 🚽 every half hour at least, the whole entire day.

I thought you know what? F*ck this shit. If I'm goin down soon at least I can go down happy. So I had a donut and some chocolate.

Did it help my situation? I'm not sure but I sure felt better!

Things didn't really start getting better until dinner time on Saturday night. I finally allowed myself to eat properly, since I figured why add more stuff to the back log when it's already packed up in there so I fasted on Friday and only had fruit on Saturday for breakfast and lunch.

Dinner turned out to be a great idea. Hubby said I sounded and looked better. I did feel a bit better, I think the laxatives were finally wearing off and I was able to get a solid night's sleep.

By Sunday I was back to normal 👑

The Lesson?

Since I'm not actually sure where I went wrong I'll just list what ended up helping me over the ordeal.

Drink lots of water. Our midwife actually told me water will help with the constipation days prior to it actually getting worse and even though I upped my intake, obviously a glass or two more would have come in handy.

Consult your medical practitioner. In our case our midwife. Again. Love having our own midwife. She's amazing and worth every penny. Knowing how well rounded her knowledge and experience is brought comfort in a very stressful situation. The practical questions about my water breaking or blood etc helped put things into perspective and made me realise bub's ok ~ I'm not going into labour 3 months early. Plus it's just good to have someone you can talk to about bowel movements (or lack of) on the fly that's not your partner who can actually give practical advice.

Listen to your body. Hours in I knew I was REALLY backed up. I also knew pushing wasn't the answer, hadn't worked thus far, don't imagine any more would be help, in fact I feel I'd pushed enough. Sleep seemed to be the most productive thing I could do, so I went with that. I woke up calmer and thought perhaps laxatives would help. Despise it taking effect the next day it did still help and I'm glad we got the super mild ones and only took 1 dose of it because it was all I needed ~ that, fasting for a day along with water, water, water.

But most of all....

Stay Calm. The thing I noticed the most was that bub was reacting to my stress. The more stressed out I was the more she would move and fidget, and I suppose it wouldn't help bowel movements either. I also noticed panic and stress didn't help rational thinking, and really being 6 months pregnant I need to be smarter with my choices and not simply react out of fear and panic. I actually meditated a bit and tried to shut out the pain as much as I could and just focus on my breath and aligning my chakras whilst on the throne 😆 and it helped a bit!

So yeh! That's been me these last few days. Thank goodness that's all over. I'll be drinking heaps of water from here on in til birthing day that's for sure!

Preggo Mumma, if you're on the same boat and reading this.... I know it doesn't feel like it at the moment but this too shall pass and you've got this! Just stay calm, get advice, listen to your body and drink lots of water.

Those Instagram shots are manufactured moments (and beautiful memories of pregnancy to look back on and show your grandkids to prove that once their parents were babies and you were young once too XD) so definitely shouldn't be taken as a true to life indicator XD

Hope that's cleared up by now, sounds pretty awful x_x

I see those manufactured shots and I swear it gives me a complex sometimes. Makes me think about teenage girls and how they must feel.

Thanks love. So happy it's all over. That was brutal as.f 😆

I hope my kids are as cynical as me with stuff like that and not much else as I hate having made them cynical 😵

Yay glad that it’s over!

Awww dont use the word cynical! I prefer "realistic" or "grounded" and I think it's important for them to be that way because there's so much fake stuff around these days.

Glad the laxatives were really gentle and slow. My mum gave me some once and they said "gentle overnight relief" on the bottle. Middle of the night and I was in agony, sweating like hell and ready to throw up! I've never touched a laxative since.

Lordy!!! Doesnt sound gentle at all!

The recommendation on the packet said I could have up to 8 sachets in a day and to stagger intake. Glad I only had 1 packet cos it got hairy before it got better.

I had up chuck moments too.... Bucket the the front, throne at the back..

If my daughter ever reads this I hope it serves up a good dose of reality lol This is actual life, unfiltered ~ shit happens but you work through it lol

Oh wow, that does not sound like a fun couple of days. Glad you're back to normal now though. Interesting the baby reacted to your stress. I've not really thought about that before, but it makes sense.

Glad things are back to normal too! Yeh! It was a bit concerning to feel her move so much and so fiercely during that time. It was somewhat reassuring to feel her though. As long as she moved around I knew she was kinda ok in there.

Oh honey!!! That sounds like HELL.... I mean, being backed up is godawful at the best of times but when you are preggers too??? Sounds like something a torture guy would have in his tool bag! Holy shitballs! Or not...

Hate to throw a home remedy atcha after the fact but ACV, boosh vinegar or fire cider always works for me. And yeah... water... but sometimes that just feels like you are flooding a blocked drain!

For some stupid Steem reason I wasnt following you, that damn glitch. I am again now. Xx

Can hubs post here as soon as you have the baby? I have no patience.

😆😆😆 flooding a blocked drain is exactly what it felt like 😆😭😆😭😆

Steem does that!!! I've had that happen so many times 🤦🏻‍♀️

I didnt actually think about him posting here! I'll need to train him I think or have a post ready to go in the drafts ;)
