Moon Monday - New Pictures of an Old Moon
Happy Moon Monday! What the hezmana is that, you say? Well, for the past few months, I've been sharing some of my moon pictures and it's always on Mondays! Today I have new pictures of an old moon.
What I mean is that while today (August 26th, 2019, just to be clear) the moon is actually in a Waning Crescent phase, moving towards the New/Dark Moon on the 30th, the pictures I have for today are of the Waxing Gibbous on August 5th, 2017 when it was 5% away from full on the 7th.
If you haven't guessed by now, up until recently I used to take a lot of pictures on a daily basis. Like, easily a hundred or so on average. So many in fact, that there have been many times I'd download them off my camera on to my computer, scroll through them, then that would be it. Occasionally I'd go through and figure out which ones were worth sharing, and I'd drop them in a big folder called, "Unedited Pictures" (because while I don't like to filter and fuss, I do need to reduce and crop because the raw file size is so big).
So long story short (too late...lol), when I saw all these shots in that folder from a couple years ago, I decided it was time to get them ready for their public debut.
New Pictures of an Old Moon
This shot, while technically on the 5th, was taken around 1am...
...and this shot was taken on the 5th just after 11pm, so there's about 22 hours difference between the two.
The rest of these were taken between 11 and 11:30pm
As you can see, it was a cloudy night
But I actually like the clouds...
...because even if I took pictures every minute or so...
...which is essentially what I'm doing here...
...it looks different each time...
...and it makes everything look so majestic and mysterious!
Peekaboo!
The clouds also mean moisture in the air, which can make the moon look pinkish...
...and needless to say, I tried to find the scientific explanation and couldn't, but this pinkish hue is science, not filter.

Beautiful photos - so mysterious! You really get us up close! Can you explain a little about how you did that? With a telescopic lens?
Thanks for sharing!
I wish I had a cool process behind how I captured these, @porters, but all I do is point, zoom, and shoot with my digital Nikon that has an incredible 60x built in zoom lens. Oh, and I use a tripod too. And thanks for the reminder - I haven't mentioned much about the technical details lately, and I'll make a point of doing that more often. Much appreciate your awesomely kind words as well. 😊
