On being a Lighthouse and Other Necessities

A lighthouse is visible guidance to a ship's Captain. Warning of dangerous reefs or the treacherously rocky coasts, they serve as a guide for all who may be lost.

Are you a lighthouse?

Ethics were his internal beacon on how to live his life. One of my lighthouses.

There was something unique about these elderly people that I saw every day; some on the streets that I walk, some - in my different walks of life. I have memorized their creased faces and the almost frayed clothing they wore, wondered about the slight indication of arthritis in their hands - a distinguishing mark of their agedness. A few of the best lessons in my life have been taught by some of them. “What you are begins with you” or “Respect” They totally understood the importance of leaving some kind of legacy behind. They have all but disappeared from the neighborhood landscape, these keepers of the streets.

On the rocks sounds so devastatingly tragic, and slightly uncomfortable. After all, position is everything.

Today is #MonochromeMonday by #Old-Guy-Photos! I know I am running a little late here, but, I think I made it on time. Barely. Hurry! You can still make it! Throw up a monochrome or three.

A little bit ragged from wear and tear of the season, but, hanging on for dear life. I hope to be just as tenacious if I need to be.

later that night
i held an atlas in my lap
ran my fingers across the whole world
and whispered,
"where does it hurt?"
it answered,

Am I a lighthouse? What a question. Well, I think the best that I could answer is "I AM TRYING MY BEST TO." Safe as it may seem, I am living to be so. To be a lighthouse to guide my little fellow is my utmost privilege in life.

Well, you know I like #TreeTuesday better, right? ;)

There is something about trees that really delights the soul. Perhaps what they do for the world, hand in hand with Mother Nature. But, you know that I am tickled pink you like my lighthouse. I do love them, although I find them challenging to photograph.

Buen dia amiga,inicio admirando esas tonalidades blanco y negro de sus fotos,y a cerca del escrito como desearia ser un buen faro,y es muy cierto wue ya esos guardianes los años han echo estragos con ellos y estan alejados,ya a esas edades quisieran pero no pueden,saludos y muy fuera de lo comun su trabajo por el colorido

Now, that really surprises me! Especially since the kids are in Massachusetts. See here You will be having a blast when you relocate! There is so much to do, you won't miss New York City!

Lies! Lies! But, you will miss it less!

I know that when you go there, it is for family time, but, that will change once you move up there. I think you will be so very happy, and you will become one of those uppity yuppities who winter in Florida. LOL

I did do two trips with Lulu to find lighthouses here in CT both times I took a zig when I should have zagged and never found the and that was using a GPS, the only times i generally see then when driving along and can't stop or its a rainy day and not good for photos, but now with your link you shared and thanks so much for that I will try and get to see someof these when we move there

Ohh I know I will miss NYC, but hopefully will find new things and keep myself busy.

I try and help when I can but still am not sure I am a lighthouse

Portland Head Light, which is a historic lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. It is actually the main shipping lane and goes into Portland Channel. I believe it is the oldest lighthouse in Maine.

I am so glad you like it. I have a million lighthouse shots, but, of course, you know that is an exaggeration! I have a few less, to be honest.

I take all of the pictures that I post, but once in a blue moon, I may use one to emphasize a point, but, it will always be sourced. Thank you always for such kind, generously worded comments. So very sweet of you! And yes! The words are mine too. :)

Love your analogy of the lighthouses! Sad, so many of the seniors are no longer found as part of the street scene! There is so much you can learn from them!
Beautiful monochrome! Something I haven't done much in but it does give a good effect.

Isn't that sad? It is the way I grew up in a Northeastern neighborhood where elders ruled! I actually don't work in monochromes very much either, only when I have to. :)

To me, they are difficult to picture exactly which one would look good in black and white as opposed to color. I am one of those that doesn't have the vision for that. But, I am learning.

Isn't that the truth! I love meeting random people of age like that. The things I learn from them is invaluable. Nothing you would read in a book, or sure.

Le sigh.

Life used to be so cool like that long ago and far away. Before people got busy with earning and accumulating more wealth. Elders watched over the neighborhood, teaching guiding and befriending the kids. Times have sure changed.
