Just Give Me A Reason on Monochrome Monday

What are you grateful for? There are times that I overthink that question, pondering which of the wonderful things in my life I am thankful for.

Here’s the thing.

I am grateful for this day. Every day, in fact. I have found that lately, life is so chaotic that my days all seem to run collectively, one into the other. The day ends and the new begins almost before I have time to sleep. I try to imagine where all the hours went. I wanted to take some moments before the day was done to reflect. I needed to center my thoughts on the simple things in life that get skipped on my gratitude list. Simple pleasures. Small gestures…. Coffee machines with timers, warm showers on a cold morning. Slippers. The smell of a freshly cleaned car. The man that took my cart back to the store, saving me a trip. A smile from a stranger while waiting in line. A loving gesture. A kiss goodbye. A short note from a friend. Small things. Simple gestures.





Have I ever told you that flowers have a way of making me irrationally delighted? The petals of my soul break out in a fit of sunshine.


Flowers. There must always be flowers. Always. Today is #MondayRed #ColorChallenge by @Kalemandra. Who colors my world every day. As you probably already know.


Every day should be #Caturday. Truth. Who doesn't love a Kit Kat? I cannot remember life prior to Kitty ...Perhaps there never was a before. Maybe it just always was. Don't they just wiggle their way into your life, needy and loving, until suddenly, you are hooked.


I am a diva, there is no lying about it. May I ask, are you my food slave? I don't recognize you, but, can you get me four kitty scoops of tuna topped with a treat?

PS... Please don't tell @dswigle that I am having an unhealthy snack made with sugar and spice and everything nice. She is like the Nutrition Nazi, and my #1 Food Slave, of course. :) Oh!! Not to dismiss the Nutrition Queen herself, @LenasVeganLiving!

I always post this poem down at the bottom of my posts. It is one that has become so near and dear to my heart. I only post the most famous part of it, but, wanted to post it in its entirety today.

they set my aunts house on fire
i cried the way women on tv do
folding at the middle
like a five pound note.
i called the boy who use to love me
tried to ‘okay’ my voice
i said hello
he said warsan, what’s wrong, what’s happened?

i’ve been praying,
and these are what my prayers look like;
dear god
i come from two countries
one is thirsty
the other is on fire
both need water.

later that night
i held an atlas in my lap
ran my fingers across the whole world
and whispered,
"where does it hurt?"
it answered,

"everywhere"
"everywhere"
"everywhere"

Ah, the garden of the mind.

Amazing, isn't it?

As James Allen brilliantly explained in his wonderful book "As a Man Thinketh", your mind is like a garden. To have a beautiful one, you must tend to the flowers and pull out the weeds. (paraphrased).

To me, that means focusing on thoughts that serve you, not enslave you. And by doing this, negativity has little real estate to encroach upon.

I think sometimes people try and look at the big things when thinking about what to be grateful for, often its the small things that are so much more important and a few small things in a day make an awesome day, When someone does a random act of kindness to me it make me smile and makes me want to give back by doing a random act of kindness for someone or some others else, Ifor me thats a way of showing gratitude ;)

As an uncle of my used ot say far to often but now I appreciate it more every dya above ground is a good day make the most of it and another thing he said is smile they are infectious and it makes people wonder what your up to :)

It's funny how many people count the big things or the things that they notice when they're talking about being grateful, but I can honestly say that it's really the small, seemingly insignificant things that really made the huge differences in life. I cannot tell you how grateful I am for a hot shower on a very cold day. Or even a cold shower on a very hot day. A spot of tea in the middle of the afternoon. They're just tiny little gestures but those things have a way of making my day.

Small and insignificant enough to not count them, but some days they make all the difference in the world. I can remember my grandfather saying any day above ground is a good day oh, so I can resonate with that one. Every time he would say it wonder what the heck he was talking about and now suddenly, I do. That's both thrilling and scary at the same time. I want to thank you so much for always being on top of your comments and taking the time to find my posts and make a nice comment on them. I aspire to be as on top of things as you are but for some reason I am like a Slowpoke getting through them and trying to make time for more. You are an absolute Angel and I bow down to you and your Speedy replies.

ME an Angel LMAO how wrong is that LOL Just ask Lulu I get called crazy weird and all kinds of things but never an angel :)

As for the little things I thing when were younger we focus on te big things as we get no I am not going to say Old I am going to say more mature we do appreciate those little things so much and see how important they are, one or two small things in a day can make so much more impact that one big one in my mind at least

A delightful and beautiful post, as always! I love your flower photos, and your list of things to be grateful for. Many years ago I made a list of things I love, to combat a particularly dark patch I was going through. All the things on the list were the little things that give any day a bit of sparkle, and I still go back and read it when I'm feeling overwhelmed or deeply despairing. I should bookmark this post for the same reason. Then I can go back and look at it sometime in February when it seems like the sun will never visit again. Thank you for such an uplifting moment!

I do love these black and white shots with just a touch of colour... it really highlights the subject in a such a great way! Google Assistant has been sending a few of my photos with this sort of style...
