The Historic Jericho Covered Bridge

For Monochrome Monday, I'm showing a few photos of the historic Jericho Covered Bridge. The Jericho Covered Bridge is located, at 12228 Jericho Road, on the Baltimore County and Harford County line in Maryland.

Around here we just call it the Jericho Bridge and it is near the historic Jerusalem Mill Village. It was built in 1865 and, although recently renovated, it is the only remaining covered bridge in Baltimore and Harford Counties. In 1978 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The bridge is a Burr arch truss wooden bridge. Burr Arch Truss is named after Theodore Burr who invented the combination of an arch and a multiple kingpost design in 1804 (source). Interesting fact ... some people claim that the Jericho Covered Bridge is haunted. Some of the claims are of cars mysteriously stalling while crossing the bridge and sightings of Spirits (source). I believe some of the claims could certainly be true. I and my siblings have experienced paranormal experiences all of our lives so I believe some of the stories could be true but I also respect people who don't have a belief in such "things". I will also say that there are times when some experiences can be debunked so I also try to keep an open mind either way. Maybe I will share a story about that tomorrow! 😉
