Can People Make a Living With Steemit?

avatar

I have read many articles on Steemit from people who are trying to make a living off of writing for Steem. I actually think that at this moment this is just an illusion even the largest whales are far from being able to make a living off of Steem alone. The price is just too low, 10,000 SP just gives you a less than $0.07 vote, so that would mean $0.35 from curation rewards and say you get a $2.00 post that would give you $1.35 a day, about $40.00 a month, that is not enough to live on even in the poorer countries in the world.

And for a person living in a third world country getting to 10,000 SP is very difficult, I can say there are very few people from these countries who have that amount of SP. Now, yes of course any little bit helps, like you can pay your internet connection with that money perhaps even some additional things like electricity. For example where I live the minimum monthly wage is on average $400.00, so I would be getting about 10% of the minimum I require to live on from Steemit and that is if the minimum wage actually covers all basic necessities which I think it doesn't.

But if Steem were to see its price pumped to $2.00, which I think is a possibility distant but still reachable if things go well, we would have a very different situation, because then your income from Steemit would be over $500.00 with exactly the same scenario, 10 votes a day and one article. So really to make Steemit attractive what is needed is a pump in its price.

But then we come to the problem, according to what I have read most people who have a say around here are looking at the reward pool and would like it abolished and some have come up with a tipping system. Perhaps this would work but i have serious doubts, like: Who would have the Steem to tip? Why would someone tip their own hard gotten Steem to someone else? If we have problems right now where only a few people are getting the votes and that is with a free rewards pool imagine if the money comes out of pocket.

And without the money incentive I seriously believe the much talked about onboarding scheme will fail, you know it is difficult to join Steemit and then after going through that nightmare you find out that you cant make any worthwhile money who would want to stay. So some might ask me: What are you still ding here? And I will reply: I am a man of habit, I get used to things, I have been writing in one way or another on Steemit for over three years. And it certainly isn't for the money, I must say cashing out some Steem has gotten me out of some tight spots but nothing life changing. But I to have a newcomer stay at this moment is difficult, three years ago this was a novelty, today there are alternatives to Steemit and more appear every month.

So to answer my own question, I would say at the moment nobody is living off of whatever he earns on Steemit, remember most whales, who are the ones who earn the most are from developed countries and what they make here is not enough to live on. The only way is for a big pump and be able to hold the price up there somehow, that would be great because it would also take the pressure off of those who invested a lot in Steem and are right now seeing their investment at rock bottom prices.

By the way I have a question, I usually post one article a day using Busy.org, to which I connect via Steemconnect. Today it seems that Steemconnect is down. This has happened several times lately. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Regarding your last question, it seems that they are updating the nodes, neither does steemconnect work for me

I also don't think anyone can live exclusively on steemit because of its bear market but in the near future who knows, thanks to the appearance of the tribes, I think you can earn a little more with tokens than waiting for a vote on steem.
I had not seen that of the tips you speak, did you see it in any article?

Not many successful tipping platforms, many failed ones.
It is just a threat to keep the rabble quiet.

Most people are here for learning and being part of a community. It takes people from around the world, joining together, creating content into this ecosystem......Money should be the last thought on anyone mind, but an added bonus if it comes to you. Like one cog of your passive income portfolio.

I don't know I think money is the primary reason a huge percent of people join Steemit, when they see it is difficult to make it they leave, that is why you have over 1,3 million people who have joined and about 5,000 who are active. Don' t really know why you believe most are here for learning and community.
