Going For Broke

Hey Jessavers

Let's face it, as much as we like to bullshit money does make this world of ours go around and I have seen it buy happiness. Have you seen people on Jetskis? Do they look miserable to you? I don't think so. Money gives you options and if used wisely can bring you many joyous moments.

To those who say friendships and family are what bring you happiness, by all means, how do you feed them though? I know none of you are growing things in your own garden.

Anyhoo, that's just me rattling off. Money doesn't have value, if you haven't realised it or can't realise it then you're doomed to repeat many mistakes that will make your life miserable. Money is only a tool, an accounting system and how we find value in it is trading it for goods and services.

I trade things I have or the skills I have in exchange for money and then use that money to acquire things I need that's kind of how it works.

People are the worst investment

It's sad to say but humans are probably the worst way to invest capital since they can only create a finite amount of value, IE what they can do with 1 working day, it's not much and it gets more expensive every year.

Businesses realise that and are always looking for ways to reduce human capital because it can become costly and weigh down production.

Some humans are a black hole when it comes to money, it all goes in and never comes out and I could never understand that concept. Where does all the money go?

They can't even tell you. It's all about consuming the next paycheque and we like to look at it as the fault of the system which can be blamed, but a lot of it is on poor financial education and habits.

I think when you don't actively count what you spend money on, then you might as well toss it in the bin directly and save yourself the time and trouble.

Going for broke

As someone who never grew up with an allowance or any sort of gimmes I've had to work for every cent I own and through that I realised it is awful to work for money. Working for money is painful, tedious and laborious so why would you want to extend the amount of time you have to work for it?

I'm pretty much ALWAYS broke, I never have money and that's how I intend to live my life for as long as possible. But not in the traditional sense. I do very much live like a broke person hand to mouth every day

I only keep a small amount of money to cover my expenses and everything I can spare I invest, there is not a single cent that I keep with me that is not actively working to bring me in more money without my interference.

You can't work your way out of poverty

Short of having some meteoritic rise in stardom through entertainment or sport, I highly doubt it's possible. Not with the way the cost of education is going, not with the way salaries are stagnating, not with the way inflation is going and not with the way consumer spending and debt is increasing.

I'd never tell anyone what to do with their money, that's their choice but for me, this is my game plan and I'm not looking to give out handouts, apart from teaching what I learn.

I don't think any good has ever come from handouts! Well at least in my experience it hasn't. If you're surrounding yourself with financial black holes or you are one yourself, don't make your problems, mine!

Hi there... I nearly said your favorite Jessie here... 😉 But that would just be a joke. I owe you a long reply on the comment on my blog and an apology. I kept thinking about replying and never got round to it. I enjoyed this post. Money has no worth. It's jist paper that someone put a number and a value on. Just look what's happening around the world. Banks or countries go bankrupt we're screwed if you don't get that concept. We watch storage wars on Netflix and the one guy found 50000000000 can't even recall the amount of zeroes of Zimbabwean money in a storage locker in Canada. On evaluating it the money exchange told them its worth NOTHING. Except for selling it note by note as collectors items. Ai. I always tell my kids. Money is nice and yes its important and very often rule our lives but it's not the be all and end all. I don't mind trading services or products and I think that's where we need to go back to. That and crypto of course. Well.... That's my humble opinion from my rock in the middle of the ocean. Greetings

Lol we all get busy or distracted this place isn’t the best way to keep in touch with anyone!....until we get private chat built in eventually

LOl that’s crazy I guess fiat money will be worth something when it’s a collectors item like having those old coins and stuff

I think that’s an important lesson to teach anyone not just kids! Especially in this fast passed consumer society we in today!

I always ask myself before I buy something that won’t give me a return, so I really need it? Am I saving R500 on this shoe or am I in fact just spending R800!

It does make buying things a bit more of a conscious evaluation instead of an impulse purchase which I think a lot of us are guilty of doing and then wondering why we’re broke

Money is definitely a tool but they keep changing the way the tool works☹️

I agree it does change and not in our favour or rather the favour of the majority it’s used to funnel people to provide value for the select few like big corporations and governments and we need to have a way to opt out and I think that’s why private money is so important it gives us a way to keep these guys on their toes and more honest instead of only looking out for themselves

That's what got me started in crypto currency to keep the govs at bay as much as possible.

So apparently you can get fined AUD$ 4200 if you have more than 90% of your retirement savings in crypto funds! I don’t get how you can fine someone for how they want to use their money!

"You can't work your way out of poverty"

true words. the last year have seen me spending less and saving/investing more. while not nearly enouph to undo the damage of years of spending failing broke rockstar, it is at least a start in the right direction.

I think you’ll be surprised at how creative positive habits compounds it might seem like a little now but it grows over time, it gives you a better outlook on money, it also gives you that buffer take time off, try something a little risky, Chase a passion project!

It’s not just about what you have in the bank but the mental state it also gives you

Happiness stems from fulfilling interactions with others. "Interactions" are of different types, most notably "economic interactions". Money is a fabulous, amazing tool to increase the number of economic interactions. When combined with law, a greater proportion of these interactions are fulfilling. Hence one can say "money + law = happiness".
But it is true that there's more. If money and law produce happiness, other things also produce happiness, if to a lesser extent. I've elaborated on this in an earlier article: "The Ressolid Project"

It’s pretty simple when you put it that way. I think through marketing and advertising we’ve pushed for more of wasted spending through impulsive buying and creating new needs and wants so we’ve lost site of why we needed money or wanted to make money in the first place

Its not how much time you work, it is what you work that counts.

That may be true but not everyone was the luxuary to choose what they’re work on or spend their time working on especially in developing nations or those in entry level positions or cannot get access to tertiary education

People are absolutely the best bet. First thing they teach you in nearly every business course I've ever taken and it extends to my life experience as well. People manage money, if you want to get good at managing money... Get good at dealing with people.

I also don't find working for money tedious. I've enjoyed and absolutely loved many jobs.

Jobs I did along the way...

Served fast food, cleaned condos, clipped fish fins, bartending, worked my way through school and moved into business management and Startups. Worked hard, built a family, built friends and enjoyed it, felt the fear of failure and the joy of success. I was happy to improve my skills, accomplish new tasks, and grind my way to better times and things.

Earning improves self- esteem, creates self-reliance and is good for our health and our brain.

Money is a tool, it gives you options. It is neither good nor bad. It is just a tool

Upvoted for an interesting read.

I see them more like a gamble than a best bet

By all means, if you can rally the right people around a specific cause it can have a tremendous upside, that's how business is done. But that's far the exception than the rule and why 90% of businesses fail

Not saying that there aren't people who enjoy their jobs but for me, I don't intend on working until retirement age. I enjoyed my first marketing job for sure, but other jobs not so much. But they were all a means to an end really weather I liked them or not. A means to money or a means to acquire skills I still use today and building a network I can rely on.

Earning improves self- esteem, creates self-reliance and is good for our health and our brain.

I couldn't agree more, if you're simply working for money as your only motive you're going to miss out on the benefits you mentioned here.

Thanks for the support and glad you enjoyed my little ramble
