Familiar Places We Frequent

Outdoor Market ~ #marketfriday initiated by @dswigle

Supermarket stores are boring, they look all the same, it always feels like a burden trudging around planning food or clothing being jostled around by too many people in one place.

Entrance has been altered since last visit, painting murals on walls must be becoming the thing to do with boring cement walls, what do you think?

4271-IllovoNursery.png

Walking through the pet store your wind your way down through this permanent store. Beyond some permanent stores, changes become evident going into the outdoor market temporary stores

Tasty homemade treats are offered along with many different fascinating little stores. Stalls do vary from one visit to the next changing with seasonal produce on offer or vendors selling at different markets throughout the province.

4281-IllovoRestaurant.jpg

Situated on top is the permanent outdoor restaurant called "The Terrace", below is where the temporary stores are filled to capacity.

3811-Woodworks.png

Wood cut to desired length, this is a permanent site where you can look for the right grain of wood to build wooden tables and chairs, fences, bird feeders, dog kennels, talented people who love to work with wood spend hours finding that right texture for next project planned. We have seen some magnificent pieces of driftwood sold to build stunning coffee tables.

3820-TentMarket.png

Partially covered by a bright red tarpaulin cover for shade from the bright sun, you can relax and enjoy what is on offer on the day.

4282-Shells.png

Sea shells used for clocks, mirrors along with a variety of ornaments, being under the red tarpaulin I played around with the colours, some more fun....

3822-WeavedHandcraft.png

Swinging around down into the lower level hand crafts are on display, weaved to make laundry baskets, mats, dog baskets.

4284-BeerGarden.jpg

Last visit this was a children's play area, now a beer garden I will have to plan a later visit to enjoy an afternoon beer soon!

The play ground for children is now adjacent to the beer garden making it very convenient for men to watch the children while wives go off to spend the money....

4286-RestaurandIN.jpg

Going through the gardens on a previous path (shown in previous post) you land up after a pleasant walk along the little stream back in the nursery.

Here you can see the restaurant from another angle under the thatch roofing, across some of the plants on sale in this large outdoor nursery.

Getting into the weekend mood with so many posts on Friday's here is one for @kalemandra #fridayskyblue flower photo taken in my garden after rains.

Who said rain, we have forgotten what that wet stuff looks like, everything is dry and dusty outside at the moment!

Now I could not do one without the other #featheredfriday with @melinda010100 is never forgotten, not enough time to support all our wonderful friends!

2261RD-Brown-hooded_Kingsfisher.jpg

Brown-hooded kingfisher, a solid beak for finding those insects, ever present everywhere along our coastline.

Before we rush off into the weekend, wishing you a good one wherever you go take a camera along with you, you never know what you will see around the next corner.

I love this market, @joanstewart. It looks like such a fun place to shop. The wood is gorgeous, but I have my eye on the baskets.

Weaved baskets for grocery shopping are very attractive, dog sleeper did work although one of our puppies used it for teething on, that did not test well under sharp little teeth.

What a great post here Lady Joan!
Not just the market, but of course also the kingfisher and your African proverb ends it so well.
Blessings!

Kingfisher sings to me daily out of a tree in the garden, hear them calling throughout the day.

African proverbs say a lot, (thinking of American shootings, gang warfare on the Cape flats)....

It was a nice upgrade to change the children play area to a !BEER garden!! LOL (Play area for adults!!)

Changes happen here often, last time I purchased beers from a small local brewery and took them home to enjoy (did not photograph unfortunately), too early in the morning to drink and no place to sit and enjoy them either.

This definitely is a great new idea to try.

Will alternate my weeks with so much happening on a Friday, love sharing bird photography and learning about habits of birds in different countries.

Thoroughly enjoyed seeing your Egret post Melinda.

Thank you Joan; we are doing well, thank you. And yes, curation is great, but time often simply runs out on the best of us😊

I put this into my schedule a few weeks ago, @joanstewart. I was on the hunt for good weekly events, and this has been a real winner in many ways. I'm probably spending 2 hours a week on it all told.

Nice shot of the kingfisher, Joan. I enjoyed the tour of the market and really liked the seashell clocks and would like a stop at the beer garden on a hot day. 😊

Well, there is nothing boring about these fabulous markets @joanstewart I know I'd love to have a browse amongst all those treasures especially the wooden products with their wonderful grain features. The entrance to that beer garden looks very inviting too.

Nice balance of handcrafts offered at this market, too many markets of late appear to be selling imported cheap container goods, definitely not local.

That's what In thought too Joan. The aim with market shopping is to find great bargains with compromising on quality. 😊

(Edited)

I agree with you that this is a much better way going to the market then trudging through one place and getting it all. There does seem to be a trend in the United States with painting murals on otherwise empty walls. For the most part, I think they do an absolutely fabulous job of decorating the landscape and it allows the artist to share his creative talents.

I do love the wood place and that would probably be one of the places that I would want to go to because there is something about wood that I love. I'm one of those nutjobs that loves to touch it and edit see the texture of it. We have beaches here that have enormous pieces of Driftwood on it and people are always scouring them looking for pieces to a coffee tables out of. There was one man that made a dining room table out of a piece and it was absolutely spectacular. I've never seen anything like it before or since.

I don't blame them for putting a tarp over the bright Sun, that is the only downside to those stalls I would think. I'm all up for the hand-woven baskets. I have many of them and I love each and every one of them. And yes please let's go to the Beer Garden! I can attest to the fact that it is hard getting around and supporting all the different tags so I do exactly what you are doing. It's almost a game that I play with myself and try to get as many tags and one post as I can because I no longer post two or three times a day and I haven't for a long time because I just don't have the time. I am happy if I get a post out and as far as curating I wish I had the time. I do try but I will tell you that for some reason it seems like I'm being stretched in 20 different directions. However oh, I am glad that you get around and I'm just a little bit jealous because I cannot always. Thank you so much for such a wonderful post for bringing us to the market today. It's always enjoyable to see different cultures and South Africa is always and forever interesting to me.

Great Kingfisher shot! I love those little guys~

#MarketFriday loves you!

Wood and rocks are always coming home with me Denise.

Driftwood off beach we dry, varnish or soak in linseed oil depending on the use, some go into the garden between plants, others may end up in vases with dry flower arrangements, depends on the mood.

Rocks have been carried from far and wide for ponds around the garden, some most unusual ones land up in the home, again a memory brought back from different places.

Visiting far off places by visiting content I have learned some amazing things, no wonder we always running out of time...

Thanks for visiting via Sharon supporting her curation @viking-ventures so many new "front-end" platforms on Steem one start missing each other not being in one place.

Most of the front-ends show the same things. I use Steempeak almost exclusively.
But now, with these "tribes" - they only show limited content, so yes... we're going to miss things.

Hey very interesting market, notice how empty of people the photos are. We have more space than people here in South Africa it seems, especially at the level of market goers.

We go early to avoid the rush, next time might consider an afternoon run to include a visit to the beer garden :)
