The benefits for married couples in Germany screw over single parents, and parents that do not fit into the traditional image of the monogamous man and woman, and the globalized work nomad. It should be a question of fundamental law, which promotes equality, but Germany is so bad at applying its fundamental laws. So bad even today Jewish victim ancestors who got their citizenship revoked by Nazis have difficulties getting their citizenship back. These fundamental laws (Grundgesetz our constitution) are there to protect us from our past, so Germany should take them more seriously.
