Happy Birthday to ME!

It’s not actually my birthday today, so chill, but it’s around this time of the year. I don’t usually get many gifts, if any, so every year I try to gift myself something special.

I’ve been looking for the perfect antique writing desk for myself for years, periodically going through the selection in antique shops in Finland, or at least what they show in their sites online or secondhand websites. I’ve seen plenty of gorgeous tables, but they are usually really big and while I would want one of those too, I don’t yet have a mansion to put it in. So the search went on.

A few weeks ago I went for another hunt through the Finland wide antique shops, which by the way all have really shitty websites, and finally Wanha Elias in Turku, had what I had been looking for. A gorgeous late 19th century mahogany writing desk, delicate enough for my small apartment, but enough space to be used as my work table. As soon as I saw it, I contacted the owner for details, price and possible delivery. After some exchange, a call to my parents if they wanna pitch in for my birthday gift which they said yes to, we made a deal and I was left eagerly waiting for my new writing desk.

Today I finally got this beauty and it’s just perfect for me. You can be sure to see it in some future self portraits. Next up on the list is finding a chair to match the table and I’m invisioning a banker lamp on it too.
