Being a Grandparent Is Foul!

The Guinea Fowl is not indigenous to the Americas, but you can find them on many farms across the United States. These African birds are wonderful to have on your property out in the country because they eat insects like ticks and spiders, lay tasty eggs that are tan colored with spots, and protect your property as an alarm when things or people come around who don't belong. These birds are busy and into everything with their black coat of feathers with white polka-dots and red adornment.

Like the Guinea Fowl, I have children. Three of them, to be exact: Leggs, the eldest and most serious; Farm Girl, the middle and most sure of her control of her mother; and Silly Boy, the fun-loving comedian. The relationship with each of them is extremely different from each other. Leggs and I have a very serious relationship that focuses on taking care of my mother. My son Silly Boy loves to play board and dice games causing us to do a lot of family fun time when we are together. Then there is Farm Girl. She has always been one to feel the world is for her to manage; that includes me and my place in her world. This relationship has been what gave me my grandparent name.

There is something about the names we give our grandparents. Granny, Grandma, and Grandmother are all names I remember calling my mother and father's mothers. I longed to call my mother Granny for her grandchildren I would have for her. However, she was Grandma. No matter how hard I tried, she was Grandma. The children knew who she was just as I knew my mother's mother was Granny. She just was. But what about those other grandmothers with names like GiGi, Mamaw, and MiMi. How did they get those names? Did they decide what they would be called or was it just passed down from generation to generation? I decided I would be called Grandma by my future grandchildren and that was final.

One day while my daughter Farm Girl was pregnant with GG3 we met for lunch. I was wearing the most wonderful dress and had the prettiest blue shoes and red necklace. I do not dress up often and to see me in a dress and accessories must have shocked her completely because she started laughing. When I asked her what was so funny, she refused to tell me. She said, "When the time is right I know what your Grandparent name is going to be."

No! No! This is not how it is supposed to work! This naming was supposed to be magical! This was not magical. If I know my daughter at all, she was being snarky and she was going to be doing a gotcha. I was not sure how I was going to feel about this.

After GG3 was born we had a wonderful meal at my parents and I was handed my granddaughter. With my adorable grandson, GG1, helping me with her, Farm Girl says, "So what do you think Guinea? Isn't she beautiful?

Did she just call me a Guinea Fowl? A bird? I am not sure how she could even call me such a fowl thing! But, wait, I am sure I could play this one to my advantage. If I smile and acknowledge it is a good thing, she will never know it upset me. But, did it really bother me? I have always felt the naming would be natural and magical. Yes, I am sure I was destined to be called Guinny. If only there was a sign to show me that it was meant to be...

LOLOLOL... 😄😁😊

Still behind, as always, but love this you know. My Mom's name is Eunice, but my son could only get out "newness"... 😆. If we are remembered at all is the true hope... yes? And I know you both are leaving wonderful and positive memories for everyone around you. Much love to you and the family, from all of us here !tip

Definitely! Love "newness", bet she did too! Love how we get named what we are supposed to be named.

One of the reasons I do all the writing and videos is so I will always be around. hehe.
