Wintery Walk With The Old Pups

These guys just love the snow when it's fresh. They were diving through it and making little snow-pup angels on their backs all day.

We got out for a little hike through the back trails. Gibson (the yellow lab) is starting to slow down in his old age. He's never been all that active throughout his life and he's always just kind of hung with me. Jax (the black lab) always ran ahead leading the way like the alpha dog he is.

They're both 12 years old now so it's getting hard for them to keep going like they used to. Because Gibson never really ran his whole life unless he had to, coupled with his never ending hunger, he's paying for it now.

Jax is really active still and he still runs non-stop. He's had a shoulder injury the last few years and it's hard on him if I take him too far, but I can tell he wants to go further even with the pain and he'd never stop running if I'd let him.

It's actually quite amazing to see the difference between the two dogs now. They're only seven months apart, they both always ate the same food and went on the same walks. But because one ran more and played fetch while the other just hung out on the deck, their physical abilities at this age are quite different.

So, the two of them will have to be content with the back trail adventures as @landonator and I head out by ourselves on bigger hikes, camping trips, and other adventures.

It will be tricky to get out skiing now that they aren't able to go fast or far, either. The Trans-Canada trail in the backyard goes forever so it's a shame they won't be able to come with me anymore.

That's if we get a little more snow so I can actually go skiing. This was only the base, so not quite ready.
