Typecasts and stereotypes

I hate stereotypes - when they refer to me at least… because other people I have no problems fitting them nicely to my perceived image of them. But at least I’m honest about it….
For instance, I hate it when people ask me if I’ve been cooking something nice… even if I do cook every day! Still, the notion that this is the most interesting thing I might have to talk about irritates me no end.
I hate talking about my kids just as much. ‘How are the kids?’ Fine! But then once they’ve mastered walking and talking what else is there to say about them?
What got me thinking about this? Well, we’ll be going to a concert later in the evening, Bon Jovi, which is not bad, I guess. I’ve already seen him live years ago, which is why I’m not over enthused. The other reason I’m not super excited - too many middle-aged people going to the concert… yeah, exactly the sort of crowd I should fit in…
That’s the problem - I don’t feel like I belong with the sort of people looking to relive their youth, when they fell in love to Bon Jovi’s ‘Always’… and he’s not that hot anymore, either.

I was talking to a friend earlier and she’s bringing her dentist friend… Besides the fact that I’m a rabid anti-dentite, I don’t think I’d be comfortable among decent middle-aged women wearing decent middle-aged clothes and feeling totally badass for spending a night out… past 11 at least. Hopefully we won’t be able to find each other in the crowd…
I guess this is one of the reasons I’ve refused to find myself a niche here on the platform, although many say it is actually a good thing… I’m sorry, but that would mean I write the same sort of thing every day, a prospect I find terrifying…
And, now, if you’ll excuse me I need to find some clothes that fit, as despite my totally immature mind, my body tends to be quite middle-aged… which is a shame!

Thanks for reading!

Ah, Bon Jovi was never a thing, for me. But I know that feeling, as most of my friends keep going to concerts from the bands we all listened to in the 80s and 90s.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Metallica, Sepultura or Scorpions. It's just that I think their time has long passed.

Nowadays I want to see younger bands, such as Infected Rain, Jinjer, In Mute...

Listening to the same thing for decades in a row becomes kind of boring.

Thanks for your article!

Where I live we didn't get many concerts in the 80s or the 90s so seeing some bands live was very much a thing for my generation... Metallica are playing in Bucharest this summer and I would have loved to see them, but the tickets were totally overpriced so I'm not going...
I haven't listened to Bon Jovi in ages, so I don't know his latest albums... whatever, he'll be singing all the hits anyway...
Like you, I'm more excited about bands I've discovered the past few years... we're going to a beach festival in a few weeks and that sounds way more promising.
