A Little Bit of Grandma..... In My Kitchen

No... No..... Not like horror story bits !!.... ha ha

....just little bits that BELONGED to her ! You silly thang !!!

I was close to my grandmother, Ida, my mother's mother. She was a wonderful grandmother, doing all the fun grandmothery things when I was growing up. She loved us all so much. When I was little I called her "Mommy Cheek" as her last name was Cheek, but as an adult, I simply called her "Granny".....

She would play games with us and kept toys at her house for us to play with when we were there. She brought us care packages if we were sick, which usually include popsicles and tiny jars of Welch's grape juice, among other things. At her house, she also had the best candy drawer ever ! :)

When she was gone, there was a house full of fun doodads and I ended up with a few pieces that I keep out in my kitchen all the time.

One of them is this rooster pitcher. I don't know at what point she acquired it, whether she bought it herself or it was a gift. Either way, it still has part of a sticky tag on the bottom that says "Taste Setter Sigma" and then "Made In Italy" Seems like these were all the rage at one time.

Now it brings some happy color to MY little kitchen.

This Kitchen Prayer plaque was in her kitchen for as long as I ever remember. there was a window over her kitchen sink that was surrounded by cabinets and it hung there always.

The words are a sweet sentiment and I can imagine that it was exactly how she felt. She was always ready to feed anyone that showed up. She was full of love and BOY !! could she ever cook !

These chick salt and pepper shakers were also in her kitchen for as long as I can remember. They were used daily, permanent residents on the counter where we made sandwiches or filled our plates from a holiday buffet.... always... always there.

I don't care what ANYBODY else came away with, I am absolutely positive I possess the Holy Grail of great memory pieces.... right here !

OK... it's a sweet lazy Sunday here and I hope wherever you are or whatever you are doing, that you are having a most wonderful day.

Love you !

What wonderful treasures! My grandma and grandpa lived just around the corner from us and they were a huge part of my life. My house is full of treasured keepsakes, too.

That might be a fun project for some winter posts! They have been gone for 30 years and I still miss them everyday.
