Hangin' with Wasps

Yesterday we went back to the old apartment to clean and get the rest of our stuff.
I sat outside for the last time on my porchy porch which is also the home of these lovely wasps.
You can see their nest above me at the top of the left pic.

We used to have maintenance take care of them, but they always just ended up building their nests shortly after anyway so we just accepted the little buggers.
Wasps have always freaked me out, but we have been able to coexist in peace for about 3 years.

I always wondered what the point of a Wasp was so I was reading about them earlier.
The internets told me that they are in a category that is neither a bee or an ant.
I guess when you really look at them they kinda do look like an ant and bee combo though.
They are apparently quite useful in horticulture for pest control and are pollinators as well.
I'm glad to hear that they have a useful purpose other than scaring the hell out of me.

In other news, there are sporadic massive downpours happening here due to the tropical storm.

Also......this just happened.....

I'm sitting here outside and this little lizard thingy just ran right by me.

Ok....off to continue getting my house in order now.

Have a lovely day.

This is just reminding my experience with them, also for a couple of years.
One just entered my room by the window and created its mud nest (mud wasps). After this first one many more came in the summers to build their nests into my room, in a part of the roof.
I can assure that, as they never saw me as a threat, they let me get very close to them and their nests.
One summer there were so many that I went around the room dodging the low flight of some of these wasps. Even at night, while I was lying down, some of the disoriented or curious (I would not know what to attribute it) young newborn came to my bed and once some one settled on some part of my body.
They never stung me or bit me; none of them.
All the spiders that hunted and brought paralyzed to feed their progeny fresh meat were not so lucky.

If you feel like it and want to read an article I wrote on this topic, on the Trybe platform, I'll submitt you the link:

Awwww! I am a big fan of wasps myself. I am happy you co-existed for so long. Maybe the next people who live there will also be so nice. Really if they feel you are no threat they have no interest in harming you. And yes, big pollinators .. and since bees are in such danger nowadays we need all the little buzzy workers we can get. : ) I hope you get all settled in soon! And yay, lizards! That is a lizard, right?

If the wasps bother you, you could always take a large cup of warm soapy water (dish soap works great) and splash the hive with it. It will suffocate all the wasps and kill them. Just make sure that your aim is good, because if you miss, you better be a fast runner.
