This and That

I'm going to be going to a Christian church for the first time in I don't even know how many years. The things we do for family.

It's actually a Unitarian Universalist church, which welcomes people of all religions, not just Christianity, though the church authorities and service are Christian.

I got myself into it while talking to one of my sisters about religion. We were both on the page of not liking the "born in sin" judge, judge, judge mentality of the Abrahamic religions, yet she loves the fellowship of churches. She described the kind of church she wanted and I immediately thought of UU. So I did a quick search online and found 5 congregations within a 20 minute drive of us. Seems it is the cutting edge of progressive religious thought in the South to be UU.... heaven forbid Buddhist or what have you.

Anyway, I mostly get people to stretch into new areas of their lives by taking them to things that stretch them, so I invited her to join me at a service there week after next, and she agreed. So off I go to church.

I don't really mind, though I do regret I'll have to be up and out by 10am that day. Retirement has made my mornings rather lazy and slow, and I like it like that. But if it will help her connect with a religious community she vibes with, well worth it. I shouldn't need to keep going.

I think I may have managed my last meeting of my Magic Lab last week. So now I'm back to happily keeping my spiritual practice to myself. Fundamentally, I like to fly solo on such things. Not sure why.

Crypto Update

I wonder if I'm becoming a bitcoin maximalist. I observe that altcoins used to represent 50% of my crypto portfolio, but are now only 20%, and that's not because I've sold altcoins or bought more bitcoin. That's how much bitcoin has risen relative to altcoins.

I still will hodl it all for at least a few years, but I definitely won't be buying more of anything but bitcoin and when I suggest crypto to others now, I only suggest bitcoin.

I think for all other coins, they really need a usage that has gained widespread adoption before their market will be mature enough to interest me now. I don't mind foregoing some of those early larger gains to have fewer total wipeouts. I finally did sell out of OMG a few weeks ago, feeling they just weren't even trying to be competitive enough to succeed. I think that's the only coin I've ever sold at a steep loss just to be rid of it. For the most part I'm considering that 20% a Hail Mary play.

How about you?

Are you still buying into altcoins?

My altcoin exposure continues to be limited to those that have a use case and are continuing to develop despite the downturn. I still suspect that 90% will fail and am surprised we haven’t see many high profile ones yet; it may be what we are waiting for.

Looking at the way bitcoin is behaving against altcoin in price now, it is sure to have more hold in bitcoin than in altcoin. But altcoin will be still a great option also

For me, religion is a very personal thing. I try to live a life that doesn't judge others and respects differences.
I too have backed off on the alt coins, but just recently purchased Funfair. It is a long shot, but worth a couple of $$$.

I think the personal relationship with the sacred is generally the most sincere. Less room for ego.
I’ve got some FUN too. I still believe in its long term prospects but I unfortunately bought it when it was almost twice its current price. So much in investing comes down less to “what” than to “at what price.”

Interesting article. On the religious side of things, I've reduced my church activities to weekdays. I go when I know there is no service lol. Then its just me and my God. As for Bitcoin the bull market is starting. According to analysts around next year it will reach its highest in four years judging by the paterns of the previous bull. Im definately buying more at the moment and when the prices reach a satisfactory high next year, I'm cashing in exchange for gold and property. The reason I think it will be crazy pricewize next year is because of the halving that will occur. It tend to leave prices skyrocketing. I wont be HODLing after that period however. I will wait for at least 2 years and buy again. Waiting for 2024's halving.

All great points on crypto. I’m thinking along similar lines.

On the church thing, today I took my sister and her husband to the Unitarian Universalist church and I actually was moved by it. But it was still hard for me to feel the actual presence of the Divine the way I do when alone. Nice people though, and uplifting message
