I can only try

How can I explain the inexplicable, how can I rationalize the unreasonable, how can I make you understand the ridiculously irrational reality that I faced on one of the best location of one the most popular tourist destinations, in Greece?
I can try, but I am not sure I will!

The long-suffering building that you see in those pictures is part of one of the largest infrastructure projects in modern Greek history. It is one of the 39 hotels under the name "Xenia" that were built form 1953 to 1967 all over the country in order to boost the, practically nonexistent, tourism industry.

Till the early 1970s it looked like it was the only task that the Greek governance had executed in a faultless way! All the hotels were architectural jewels, located in stunning locations and in perfect harmony with the scenery and the local communities!

And then, for no obvious reason, apathy, indifference and eventually abandonment...

Today only a few of those amazing hotels are still in operation while a few others are demolished and most of them are left to decay.

The one in the pictures is in Nafplion and I visited it last month. The situation that I have found it, is just inconceivable and honestly I can't possibly believe that it is unintentional.

I don't know if we'll ever find out why this happened or if somehow this damage can be reversed but for sure, it is not going to be forgotten.

All the pictures and the words are mine.

A well known sad story, for us Greeks... At least your photos bring out the beauty of this decay.

It is more than a sad story, it is a crime against the property of the Greek people but unfortunatelly, there is not much we can do.
Thank you for your support!

It's a shame to let these buildings be damaged when they can be used to house homeless families!

It's a shame, it's a waste, it is practicaly a crime but but unfortunatelly, there is not much we can do.

Wow. I am fascinated by urban decay, there is something deeply appealing to me about human structures in the midst of slow decay. I know on one level it is sad and a total waste, but on another level this is the end destination for all human construction, if you adjust your time scale. What a beautiful setting, the shots that show the impressive landscape along with the dilapidated hotel are really cool. I would love to poke around in there. Kind of reminds me of @knowhow92's secret skate spot that he posts about sometimes (some kind of abandoned large structure that they skate inside during the winter). Cheers

Yes, I know what you mean. I am also attracted to decaying constructions and I often take pictures of them. Time is relentless and no one/nothing can avoid it but in this case it is practically a deliberate crime and that's what makes it more special and more annoying, at least to me!
Thank you for stopping by :)
