The Word, Hello
This is a very powerful word, hello. Strangers can meet at a word of hello.
You know when I was in school, grade school, junior high school and high school, I was very shy. Guys in general want to talk to the girls, but the ice must be broken. I was a shy guy at that time in my life and I thought I didn't have much to say.
I guess sometimes you can talk yourself out of a lot of things. I think of all the lines I could have used on the girls, I must have missed this word, hello.
I can imagine if I would have said, hello to a different girl everyday? Well, for one thing at least I would have said something to a girl everyday.
Well, no risk, no reward. I can't believe I use to be that shy.
As I write I am now, 61 years old it seems easier to talk to strangers. I went back to a high school reunion and everybody was talking to me, like I was one of the popular ones. No, I was not, but I find that I can talk to my old classmates, where when I was a teenager I just had a hard time talking.
Funny how you get back to a reunion and it is not that hard to talk to people like it once was. I kind of laugh to myself, an old classmate came up to me and asked to you remember me? Well, of course I remembered her she was one of the popular girls.
Then I looked back at the yearbook afterwards and say to myself, That was a homecoming queen that asked me if I remembered her. Now that reminds me of Davy Jones singing a song called, Daydream Believer.
I remember just walking to the mechanics as my car was finished being worked on. Sometimes on my walk I would say, hello to strangers and they would say hello back.
I guess a good book that would have helped me in my shy periods was, How To Win Friends And Influence People by Dale Carnigie. I did discover that book, but later on in life.
I think if one is really shy and wants to break out of that shyness, then going into sales would help. Of course not just going into sales, but studying sales at the same time.
One of my friends wanted me to help her with English. We lived a long drive away from each other so we would meet when she had time on Skype. I really didn't know how to help her other than that she would use English words a lot.
I suggested that we would read the Bible to each other. I suggested we read the King James Version. She didn't have a Bible and we used another book.
It was OK, but I told her if she really wants to learn English well, she should go into sales. I told her that in sales she would be forced to speak English a lot. I believe she was from Vietnam.
You know what? She called me one day and told me that she is a real estate sales person. So she did get into sales. I haven't heard from her since then.
Yes, shyness or wanting to speak English better, well here in California, sales might be what you need.
Well, of course if you don't make the sales, you would go hungry. That is why you would not only have to go into sales, but would have to study sales and apply those different techniques.
Well, maybe that is why I find it easier to talk to people, sales would force you to talk to people and those sales techniques can keep you in the conversation.
I remember watching a video called, 24 Techniques For Closing The Sale by Brian Tracy. At the last part of that video he talks about using every sales technique on a prospect that is still talking to you, I mean to the point they will throw you out.
Brian Tracy will tell you how to respond to a no and still stay in the sale. Well, staying in the sale until they throw you out will give you the experience of applying those techniques in the midst of the sale.
What was it that Zig Ziglar would always say, I think it was, Either you sell them on buying the product or they sell you on why they won't buy the product. Well, something like that anyway.
So let's get back to how we started this blog, with a, Hello. One thing about a sale is that you can always open with a, Hello.
Let's end with a scripture, Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. John 4:10.
