Being Busy Is Not Being Productive

Hey Jessocialites

I think we're all guilty fo throwing around the "B-word" when it comes to how we spend our time or why we've been absent from certain events or social circles. The term busy is a generic term used for social capital; being busy makes you seem as if you are important or have achieved something even when you have not.

The truth is no one is too busy for you or to attend some gathering, yes there might be the occasional scheduling issue, but honestly, the truth is we're just avoiding the fact.

Being busy is the most comfortable white lie to tell, but hardly of us are busy. If we were busy being productive with the same 24 hours we all get on this planet, I would imagine there would be a million more Elon Musks than there are today out of the 7 billion people on the earth.

Busy with nothing

Being busy is a generic term that can mean just about anything, you don't have to be productive to be busy you can be killing time. Busy watching a series, busy scrolling through social media, busy sleeping.

We often don't know what to do with the time we have on this planet, so we look for things to keep us busy, to keep us sedated and to keep us distracted. The only thing we are busy with is chasing our next hit of dopamine, and I think we need to be honest with ourselves and those around us.

Productive and busy

I think that many of us are directionless and we, therefore, look for stimuli from anywhere instead of seeking it in something we are passionate about we look for the simplest way to keep busy. Instead of improving a skill, yourself through personal growth, your relationships with people, your health and fitness we look for quick fixes.

I don't think being busy is a legitimate excuse and people need to be honest and say this is not a priority or realise they have been wasting their time and focus on what is important to them or find something they can derive value from with their time. Be it a sport, a hobby or a business, there are plenty of ways to take your busy time and turn it into something productive and beneficial for you and those around you.

I'll be honest. I'm guilty of using the B word all the time too. I think I'm better this last year than before though.

LOL I was inspired to write this because I use it myself and then I actively tried not to and then when I did I noticed how many people use it when I know they lying

Dear @chekohler

Another yet interesting read.

Being Busy Is Not Being Productive

Indeed. Being busy doesn't necessarily means that one is being productive (it surely could mean the same, but it hardly ever does).

Lately I've heard similar sentence explaining that multitasking is nothing but multiswitching and it's against being efficient (productive).

ps. what are "shallow tasks"? I've never heard this description. And what does "hyperfocusing on single task mean"?

Upvoted with both (my own and @project.hope) account :)
