Magic Mushrooms Australia. Harvest time for future microdosing to treat depression.

avatar

Its magic mushroom season here in Australia and professional and amateur hunters are scouring parks, walkways, fields and bushlands in the hope of coming across some of natures magic.

This is the first season I have gone hunting for quite a while but unfortunately the medication I'm on essentially cancels out the Psilocybin (one of the active ingredients in shrooms.)
The Medication I'm on is an SSRI or Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Both the SSRI and Psilocybin Bind to receptors in the brain, mainly HT5. However Psilocybin actually increases the amount of neural pathways and this is how it gets its antidepressive properties.

Basically it makes people accept their emotions better. One study found that a single dose of Psilocybin had positive effects for up to 5 weeks afterwards in people with severe depression. Rather than numbing our emotions and feelings Psilocybin allowed participants to embrace and accept their unhappiness or loneliness as well as increasing their appreciation for positive emotion.

I have been on Anti-depressants for almost 2 years now and have tried quite a variety, all with little to no effects. Over the next few months I plan on harvesting as many Psilocybe subaeruginosa or P.subs as possible as well as weaning myself off of the medication.

Once my body and brain is cleared out and fresh to go I will begin microdosing and keep a journal to keep track of my emotional state and what differences (if any) I notice.

I also will post a hunting guide for Australian Magic Mushrooms and a grow guide for anyone interested in hunting or growing their own, whether its to trip balls or use medicinally.

I'm hoping to begin my microdosing in approximately 2 months so I'm going to need to get my hunt on and find enough to last me through the off season as well. Here's some pics of my finds so far :)

Good thing you know what you're looking for! I can cautiously identify one type of edible mushroom but I still wouldn't pick any without someone that knew what they were looking at hovering around XD

Looks like you found a decent amount. The microdosing and growing journals will be interesting :)

Oh it took a little getting used to, and Im always careful. If in doubt throw it out :P. But Shroomery.org is a great place to get an I.D on any type of mushroom :)

I don't know much about the different kinds of mushrooms, so I probably wouldn't go out hunting for them myself. I suppose I could get a book with good pictures for identifying the different types, that would probably help.
I've heard a lot of good things about microdosing so I'm looking forward to your reports on their effectiveness for you.

It took me a while before I was confident in spotting the ones I was after. There are deadly lookalikes that grow in the same environments so you have to be careful. Most important feature is that they turn blue hen bruised, can be hard to see if they aren't fresh but the psilocybin turns blue when it oxidizes.

(Edited)

So do you just eat the caps? Or do you have to boil a few up or something?

You can eat the caps and the stem, no evidence to suggest there is less active ingedient in the stem. You can make a tea out of it or put them on a pizza. I like to dry them out and powder them, then put the into caps. thy aren't as potent but it makes for easy storage and you get less queasiness. There is a few good facebook goups and forums like Psilocybin hunters AUS/NZ and Shroomery.org , perfect reading material and location specific information on both :)
