First off, I'm not a practicing witch.

I don't belong to a coven or anything like that but I do have an understanding of the power of intention, ritual and harnessing elements and the amplified effect when timed with astrological events.

Energy is Everywhere

Believe it or not, everything has energy and it can be felt.

It can be felt when you travel to the ocean or the mountains. When you are with a group of people. When you receive flowers. When you hold a crystal. When you smell a scent. When you eat food.

Everything has an energy signature.

Some people are naturally sensitive to it, some aren't, fortunately this is something that can be learnt just by embracing the stillness and taking the time to be aware of everything around you.

The Evil Eye

The Hamsa

Have you ever wondered why the Hamsa is such a well known and ancient symbol of protection? It's because the evil eye is real thing.

The evil eye is powered by other peoples bad thoughts and intention that are directed towards you. Depending how strong their focus is or if they're influencing people to direct the thoughts towards you magnifying the effect (this is how prayer works ~ focused intention through repetition.) you could end up experiencing side effects such as being ill or a series of misfortunes.

Black Candles

It's been a common misconception that black candles are only used for dark magic.

Maybe it's the colour or maybe we can credit movie stereotypes for this but black candles are actually neutral. They can be used for good and/or bad, in fact it's the practitioner's intention that will determine the end result.

I've decided to make black candles for protection. Something that will neutralise, absorb and transmute negative energy and transform it into positive energy.

To amplify my intention, I've decided to add crystals, essential oils and sage leaves.

Black Tourmaline a favourite of mine when it comes to protection. It's known to absorb negative energy transforming it into positive. It protects the user from negative emotions and intentions, and it also helps ground and clear blockages.

Sage is a widely used herb for smudging and space clearing. It's actually a favourite of mine and I grow my own organic sage because I use it a lot. It is advised to carry sage for protection from the evil eye and curses.

Cinnamon is more of an abundance and prosperity herb but it also has protective properties. It also has such a rich, hypnotic aroma that seemed to suit the purpose of this candle.

I can't wait to test this baby out!

I'm sending one of the tealights to a friend of mine who is in need of protection and space cleansing. She actually inspired me to make this. It was as if spirit called out to me to help her.

Incidentally, I believe I could benefit from this candle too. The fact that everything arrived when it did.. I don't believe in coincidence but I do believe in the flow of the universe and perfect timing.

I'm still undecided if I should modify my candle to reflect the evil eye.
