Still hoping for a move to Mallorca 🙏

avatar

A little while ago, I asked if I could perhaps, maybe, possibly, live and work in Spain and keep my current job. The initial response was positive, but since then, there has been a lot of back and forth via emails and the final decision still hasn't been made.

I'm hopeful it will come in the next week or so, just as the UK heads into it's second lock-down. This rules out any possibility of flying until the 2nd of December, unless I can blag the airport officials (police?) that i'm traveling for work...

Possibly? With a letter from work saying I was going over to work - although this would be the same work, location independent. Hmmm.

Sounds risky - I can't find any small print on the rules around traveling 'for work', and am not sure who I would contact with this question. Flights, including everything I own, are looking like 200 pounds for a one-way, and the taxi I will need to the airport approx 150 - another 150 if I get turned away, and I'd have to do the same at a later date.

So I think I'll wait until at least the 2nd December, and obviously this relies on work hurrying up with their decision. It was the 5th December that I left the UK in 2015 for Mallorca, perhaps this could be the date. It would be the same airline too, Easyjet, who did a decent job in looking after my bike last time, before some fuckers nicked it.

This one isn't as expensive as the previous one that made the trip, but I'd still like it to get around to do my shopping, and likely make countless trips to the Town Hall, Bank, Gestoria's (people that sort stuff out like Tax for you), and of course to cycle around the deserted part of Mallorca where I will be staying initially.

I'm pretty stressed to be honest, but understand it's mostly my own making and I'm trying to suck it up and do what can. Packing the bike is something, as I'll be leaving this apartment whatever happens at the end of the month. A friend has kindly offered to put me up as it may only be for 4/5 days - it could certainly be longer than that though. A 'no' from work (which would be a real kick in the balls at this point), or an extension to the lock-down are two reasons as to why. To soften the blow, they could end up with a cheap keyboard and a big TV :)

As an escape from worrying about that which I cannot change, I'm still working out most days, studying Spanish, and spending 30 mins to an hour on the keyboard. I bought the thing about 6 weeks ago, and have recordings from the first few days - it's pretty cool to hear the progress, even though I'm still a total beginner. Irrespective of where I settle next, I'll definitely be upgrading to 88 keys, and thy will be weighted - more soul, and more chance to see how bad my technique is :)

So, fingers-crossed work agree, the PM keeps to his word and lock-down ends on the 2nd Dec, and my bike makes it over in once piece. Then the paperwork and other faff begins, but at least I could go see the Mediterranean at the end of the day.

Thanks for reading,

Asher

I really hope you can get the 'yes' and you'll be able to fly out, Asher.

Thank you, they are certainly taking their time, but I think this has to be a positive.

Weighted keys are a must!

Hope it goes through for you mate. A big TV is a nice kicker for putting you up, if you get stuck you can crash at mine!! :0D

They are! But I'm actually happy I can leave this one behind and not be too fussed - Imagine turning up at the airport with 3 suitcases, 2 laptops, a bike, and keyboard :D

If you get stuck you can crash at mine!! :0D

Extra hands for excrement scraping duties, cheers!

Is beerman open at present?

I think they called me into the office yesterday to check I hadn't buggered off already - my video background for the daily meeting is a beach :D

He isn't. Boo hiss. He was doing deliveries for a while but then that fizzled out. Raging, man!

Start answering in beach wear. That will double down on the background of 😃

Gutted :( I guess he's not been restocking - I hope he re-opens at some point!

Start answering in beach wear...

Tempting! Although my director has already had a go about showing up in pajamas - it was an old t-shirt ffs and not one I wore to bed!

I was just thinking this morning it was time to DM you and find out if you were still planning on going to Mallorca so this was a timely update.

Living with all this uncertainty is hard, especially when you're not convinced that the actions being taken are the best ones.

am not sure who I would contact with this question.

I was wondering similarly in relation to visiting my mum in Goza. She's 90 in January and having a few health challenges lately. At what point can I get on a plane to visit her?

Like you, I'm trying to just get on with it and not think about it too much. It's too upsetting to consider certain ramifications of it all.

Anyway, let's hope it's all better than anticipated and you get the OK from your employers and we can both travel in December.

Love and hugs to you. 💙

Thanks for thinking about me :)

I'm pretty sure that traveling to meet relatives isn't allowed, which is pretty tough in some circumstances. 2nd December is when the PM has stated this lock down will end

without a shred of doubt

Meh. Can hardly be 100% on that.

I think booking a flight is too risky right now, most airlines wont refund and only some are offering to move the flight if you give them 14 days notice.

Anyway, let's hope it's all better than anticipated and you get the OK from your employers and we can both travel in December.

Yes, pleeeeease!

I hope with all the good vibes that you will achieve what you set out to do and that it will be better for you. The situation should not be easy but surely with optimism and good energy you will make everything flow. Starting to read you, I leave you with a hug and my positive energy so that everything goes well for you. Greetings. @abh12345

alright... here it goes. I hope you get to go, because that is what you want. This is the way I see it, if you get to go that's great, but if you don't, still no big deal. You have to find a place to live that's all. No matter what you friends are going to be your friends, that is the certainty. Many of us, are useless physically, as we are too far away to be of any use to you. But still there is someone on the other side of the keyboard. That's all that I am saying.

Yes, I know there are people around, even if they are on the other side of the keyboard/world, thanks :)

We've spoken about some of the reasons for going, to save being one. The other is for more sunlight, I'm feeling the dark season setting in already and light makes such a big difference for me.

I wonder if part of the opening in early December is for the Christmas/Holiday season. I hope things work out for you, and that 2021 is a much better year for everyone.

That could well be it, which will mean flights going like hot cakes. I think I'll book, if the answer is positive, as soon as I find out, and then pray that people are good this month and cases fall so that the PM keeps his word.

2021 surely cannot be tougher!

Hoping it will work out for you, Ash. As I have mentioned before, Mallorca stole my heart 20-odd years ago...

Good luck as you're going to need it. I don't envy you, honestly. There are so many things that could go wrong and living with that uncertainty must be hard. I hope everything is going to go as planned. 🤞

Either way you're moving forward, taking steps, and that's what's required to get from one place to another, physically and emotionally so...Get it done...There's no point looking backwards right? You're not going that way.

I hope it works out to plan. :)
